So it would make sense if some motherboard makers had bad capacitors as well.

Just because you have had a few bad experiences doesn't mean the company makes bad mobos, might just mean you got one of the bad apples.

i thought this bad cap issue was fixed a couple of years ago...sad it is back...
 
Sapphire x800GTO^2

I own the same card. The stock cooler is not too bad itself. It has a pretty hefty weight and the center has copper core. Although the finish isn't any good. I had a ATI Silencer from my old X800XL (that I sold after getting GTO^2), so I swapped coolers, but I really don't think the stock cooler is any bad at all.

why did you switch from a x800xl to a x800gto? agp -> pci-e?

DeskStars have had a long history of being unreliable, but I think the newer ones are better. Good luck.

Between your two choices, GTO2. 6800GS would be mine though.

i had one of the deathstars and yes it did die and it was labeled ibm, when it was rmaed, i received one that was labeld hitachi and it has worked no problems for over a year. it is my 2nd fastest hdd, just behind my scsi, nice drives, would by another 😀
