What I have ordered:

Opteron 144: $160
Corsair Value 2x512: $73
Epox Nforce4: $95
Antec SuperLanboy: $30
Fortron 400w: $40
Hitachi Deskstar 160gb: $20
Nec 3550a: $40
Artic Silver 5: $9

PURCHASED- x800GTO FIREBLADE- $170
Can reach 580+core stock HS/F at pretty cool temperatures (12pipelines).

Total= $637

Now, all I have left is the graphics card... any suggestions? (Thinking either x800gto2 or x800)

(pretty good rig for $467, ay?)

already have:
5.1 speakers
mouse/keyboard
USB wireless
monitor
windowsxp

what about maybe looking into the fs/ft sectin for a x800xt/pe or 6800gt? just a thought 🙂

nice build though

Instead of that 6800GS get a Sapphire X800GTO2 OEM at the Egg for 209. It has a 100% success rate of being flashed to a x850 xt.

wow, links to where you bought that stuff at? Very good price

The two "steal" items I have are:

The Antec Super LanBoy and the 160GB Hitachi-
Both were purchased on Black Friday at COMPUSA.

The AX400 is a great value, it can be found here.

Everything else is pretty standard.

(Opteron144 was purchased from MWAVE, about a week or so ago).

I'm sure someone screwed up in flashing their x800GTO2 to x800XT.

But it's possible with every card, it's just a softmod to unlock the pipes.

Yes, Epox boards are unreliable. I haven't seen any system builds with Epox boards that do folding...

" The Epox 9NPA+ Ultra is the fastest board in the roundup at stock speeds. It was also the highest overclocker at stock speeds, and the second highest overclocker when the bus was overclocked. The Epox is an incredible value whether you are looking for a board that will run fast with stability at stock speeds or a board that will satisfy almost any Athlon 64 enthusiast. The range of overclocking options and the overclocked performance are among the best that we have seen, falling short only in the memory voltage area, which tops out at 3.1V. The feature set is more or less average for Ultra boards, but the overall performance is clearly standout. Based on the standout performance and solid overclocking that we achieved with the Athlon 64, we are pleased to award the AnandTech Gold Editors Choice to the Epox 9NPA+ Ultra motherboard."

I have used Epox motherboards in previous builds and have had no problems with them.

i have been folding with an Epox 9NPA+ Ultra for a few weeks, and it has been running for at least 4 or 5 weeks without a restart 24/7. temps are good, not problems with my old cd burner or hd either. when did you decied that epox was not reliable?

A while ago. They're the equivalent to PC Chips boards or ECS.

can you back it up somehow? maybe you have had trouble with one or two, but making a blanket statement without any proof is kind of dumb.

Might want to save some money and get the Chaintech NForce4, my brother and I both have it, and its great. I would also recommend the X800GTO2.

Lat I checked ZipZoom has it for 80 with their usual free 2nd day. I have my computer on 24/7 folding, torrenting etc. Have left it on for over a month with no instability whatsoever.

the op states in the first thread:
What I have ordered:

Well the Epox 8RDA boards are not reliable, thats for sure. So many horror stories of bad caps I read in the past year or two.. then a week or two ago my bro said his comp is randomly restarting and giving Vdd in red. So we tried my PSU, still the same issue, then I look at his mobo and pretty much every single one of the bigger, electrolytic caps are leaking!

Hmm.. I'm thinking of getting an x800GTO2 now. Then buying a ATI Silencer Rev. 2 in January. Does the card get too hot on stock fan when unlocked?

and I'm pretty sure Epox makes reliable boards (i heard the socket754 ones were good)... although their customer service may be weak.

Too bad he already ordered the Epox. I would've gone with a Chaintech VNF4. Pretty pleasant overclocking experience with it.

Yes, many companies(Dell, HP, Gateway) are dealing with bad capacitors at the moment.

So it would make sense if some motherboard makers had bad capacitors as well.

Just because you have had a few bad experiences doesn't mean the company makes bad mobos, might just mean you got one of the bad apples.
