I thought scientists weren't able to figure out what the 1918 flu was because all the samples had degraded in the decades before the technology came about to look at them. 😕

I think they were able to obtain the entire genetic sequence from a permafrost grave?

yes. there's a New York Times Magazine full-length article on it. here's the citation from a paper I wrote on the subject:

The cases at SMU in Dallas were highly resistant to Tamiflu as well.
Insist on Relenza (zanamivir), if you can tolerate it. Its an inhaled powder that can trigger or worsen asthma attacks and bronchospasms in people with existing lung/pulmonary illness or chronic conditions. There have been no confirmed reports of any influenza virus developing resistance to Relenza.

But in either case, whether Tamiflu or Relenza, treatment must be started within the first 24 hours after symptoms appear, ideally within 12 hours, or its effectiveness rapidly declines. Starting it 48 hours or longer after symptoms first appear, it is pretty much completely ineffective. And its important to take it in the proper dosing regimen.

Why hasn't it been mentioned... I'm guessing that its because of the over a million infected there less then 400 have died from it.
And the Spanish flu only had like a 2.5% fatality rate as it was so again nothing to worry about here unless elderly or already sick.

This isn't correct, there were high mortality rates in the young otherwise healthy adult population.
 
Healthy isn't what I would call someone whos immune system overreacts but maybe thats just me...

Dunno if you're just being pedantic or what...

No one has been able to identify why one persons immune system undergoes a cytokine storm and another doesn't.

There's a lot of data indicating why one pathogen causes it while another doesn't.
