You know how many American nucllear bombs are sitting at the bottom of the ocean, or in swamps, or just lsot in the woods somewhere?

US planes have crashed w/ nuclear weapons aboard, and the weapons were never recovered, or they've had to jettison the weapons due to problems with the aircraft.

Well, so far Japan has never had a Chernobyl or 3 Mile Island type incident. They've got a better track record than the US and Russia.

IIRC, there are 13 confirmed, de-classified broken arrows (yes, the military actually calls lost nukes broken arrows). The US knows where they are but has deemed them unretrievable. I'm willing to bet that the military has these locations under surveillance.

Interesting read, but I don't really think much of it. It hasn't really been proven either way if reactor grade plutonium could be used to create WMD's, afaik. Personally I tend to side with those that say it isn't possible to create a nuclear bomb out of reactor grade plutonium. But hey, I'm no nuclear physicist, so what do I know?

Loosing or having Plutonium has does not have much to do with being allowed or having nukes. We have plutonium we could build nukes just like they could if they wanted to but we do not want to.


plutonium is a byproduct of certain nuclear reactions

Well, they didnt have such catastrophic accidents (yet) but they sure have plenty of accidents and scandals with their NPP. Wasnt there just recently this scandal that a plant had released radiating material due to a dangerous incident but kept on going and not reporting that something was wrong? And also didn't they have to close down the fast breeder due to many incidents?

I would be more worried about Yakuza sales to NK or to "the Highest Bidder" <coughAlQuedacough><DrEvil>for one MILLION DOLLARS</DrEvil>. That much plutonium could pollute most of the planet if dispersed in a dirty bomb. Plutonium, ingested , will defintely make you want to die if it doesn't kill you first.
