Ughh... going to the movies is miserable

Went to see Avengers tonight. Great movie, but the thought of anapping my finger and erasing half the people in the theater did come to mind.

Guy next to us thought it was cool to bring his 4 year old who talked for 2 hours straight. At one point the kid is begging his parents to leave and these fucking mouth breathers solve the problem by now having full conversations with him.

I don't understand why these morons don't hire a babysitter instead of ruining the wxperience for everyone else. Between the babies crying, the kid talking, and the teenage girl in frint of us warching youtube on her phone the whole movie... ughhhhhhhh.

Old guy in front of me seemed to be drunk. He’d make these loud weird laughs throughout and almost fell and busted his ass a few times. I enjoyed the movie too but this one brought out the trash.

Nah it’s not miserable, this movie just brought out the trash. I love going to 5he movies, much more fun than watching at the house.

If it's a miserable experience why do you do it? Smart people stopped at least a decade ago.

nonsense!

Some movies beg to be seen in a way you just can't bring to the home, at least not most people. I love my home theater and have plans to make it better in the future, but there will always be movies I'd much rather see on a huge screen with sound quality I can't replicate yet. Even with quality speakers, it's difficult to pull off the booming strength without irking the neighbors (without at least some serious sound dampening, practically a purpose-built theater). Not all of us have a lot of space between homes (and my shared walls in a townhouse of course introduce far more limitations).

I feel like more and more parents are trying to continue living their pre-child lives and just slotting in their baby\toddler into the plans like they were an adult.

when i was a kid i went to a movie theater and a drunk guy stole my hat and wore it on his head and wouldn't give it back

but at least the movie was good

Gotta start going to the theaters that serve drinks... some of them don't even let kids in - but in general I've really only ever seen adults in the one I go to.

Oh also - I fucking love Halloween. Went to one of our favorite crowded restaurants... completely dead, there were like 5 other people. Went to the movie theater afterwards, totally dead... I think there was one other couple there. Fuck candy and fuck those stupid costumes.

Last movie we saw in the theater was Dunkirk in 70MM IMAX - $22 tickets seemed to limit the amount of trash.

It takes a very special movie to drag me away from home and into the madness that is society.

I live in the sticks so our little local theater is pretty dead during the weekdays when I tend to go. I've had the entire theater to myself on occasion. I've also got a MoviePass that lets me watch a movie a day for $10/month and I can walk out if I have to. I like kids, but I like parents who know to keep them to kid movie matinees until they are mature enough to sit quietly. If you are having full on conversations with your 4-year-old you need to be asked to leave after *maybe* one warning.

When my kids were little we did a lot of drive-ins, and I would back in our pickup with a camper shell so we could all stretch out in the back. It had a thick carpeted insert that made it like watching a movie in bed. If the kids talked nobody was bothered, but on occasion we would all fall asleep and only wake up at like 2 a.m. when the lights were turned on.

I took some personal time Thursday afternoon to see Infinity War, since the thought of enduring a showing in a full theater pretty much makes my skin crawl. There were about fifty people in a ~400 seat theater for the 4:30 showing. I do live in the sticks, but nights and weekends for a movie like this are insane anyway.

I went to The Avengers, non 3-D, this afternoon and it was $12 per ticket.

Two bits of advice:
1) go to a late showing
2) go some time after the debut (at least a week)

When I go to the cinema these days it's typically about 25% full or less. The last time I had an experience like yours was with one of the first showings of 'Oceans Eleven' (the newer version in case that needs saying), kids walking up and down the aisles while the film is playing, texting, etc.

Since I purchased a MoviePass for $9.95 per month, I've been going to lots and lots of movies. Because of this, I guess I don't really care if I talk too much or am a bit obnoxious, if they throw me out, I'll just come back tomorrow as $9.95 covers one movie a day for a month. You really should not be paying $12 a movie. Personally, I see lots of people using MoviePass and because of this I feel that going to the movie is not a special event anymore, but now just a daily event. Get with the program people.

I've gotten lucky when I go to the movies, it's rare that I experience anything like that. That does seem like a stupid idea to bring a little kid to a movie theatre though unless it's actually a movie for kids.

Moviepass existing just makes me not want to go even more knowing how many of you there are.

I've been watching this since I first came across it on SD last fall. Time was when I would have jumped on it like a bum on baloney, but I've become a bit more senile cautious in my old age. Anyway, I finally gave in recently when they brought back the month-to-month option, which limits one's exposure to a whole ten bucks.

I just went to 3 movies in 4 days, so the return on my investment has more than tripled already. I know tons of digitally challenged geezeers for whom I now feel confident recommending this to them . . . but the fear and pushback from them is amazing. You can't really blame them . . . they all vividly remember the Hindenburg like it was yesterday . . . and some think it WAS yesterday! 😱😉😛

I have no freaking idea what these folks business plan is, but for right now, it's free money! 😀

Last movie in the theaters I saw was Valerian and there was zero other people in there.

But one time a young couple was behind me talking and I turned around gave them the evil eye and they stopped for a couple minutes but started again. So I turned around and gave the shhh sign along with the evil eye and they stopped for about 5 minutes and then again even louder they started again. I lost it, I stood up turned around and shouted shut the fuck up and the entire theater stared at me. I hunkered down in my seat form embarrassment and about a minute later an usher came down the isle with a flashlight looking at folks, no one said anything and he left. Don't remember the couple talking again. But I went out last.

The movie theater in my basement is the only theater I've been to in 5 years other than 2 random nights we went to the movies like 4 years ago. It's definitely a much better experience than going to a theater full of random idiots who don't understand basic principles about watching movies.
