I had a similar idea to this the other day. Charge like $2 more than the normal ticket for a special screening where people have respect for others. Nothing special about the actual movie. No extra anything. Just the thought the dollar amount alone might help keep the plebs out.
I usually avoid going to the theater, but I'm psyched about the "2001 a space odyssey" now 70mm print! It's more or less my favorite movie.

If it's a miserable experience why do you do it? Smart people stopped at least a decade ago.
Nah he just ate out of the bag.Did he make you reach for some?
I always wait for Redbox because the sound quality on streaming isn't even close to Bluray. That's why i have a home theater. I rarely go to movies anymore and if i do its at obscure times with the least amount of other humans to ruin the experience possible. Ill wait for Redbox/Netflix or occasionally Vudu.

I haven't noticed a pattern or anything, but if I do recall correctly, the sound in Thor was definitely "different". I believe I had to even turn the volume up a lot louder than I typically do, to get it sounding "normal". I usually watch movies between -12.5 and -10, and I believe Thor I had to set to be at reference level, which is typically way too loud.Sort of a side question - but are you finding that some of the recent Redbox movies have the LFE soundtrack running really cold? I've had a few movies where the LFE on RedBox movies is just non-existent. Thor Ragnock was the most recent one.
I am not sure about a central source of wisdom as far as which theaters will show it. A friend found it at the Music Box in Chicago and grabbed tickets for opening night then told me about it.I can't find it list to showing in the DC area![]()
The MoviePass is a Mastercard debit card so every theater should accept it or they are violating their merchant agreement with Mastercard. AMC theaters are giving folks a hard time about using it, but I hear even they have let up. MoviePass will only pay for a standard movie and you use an app to sign in and it gives you a 30 minute window to buy your ticket. It works fine at theaters with assigned seating, but I've never tried buying other than on the same day I was going to the movies.Don't you just pay an upcharge for anything but standard movies? Also, I find that MoviePass is kind of useless if you use theaters with assigned seating and want to go to a popular movie any time in the first 3-4 weeks. Most theaters aren't associated directly with MoviePass, so the service requires you to be within a certain distance of the theater and buy the ticket on that day. In other words, you aren't likely to get a good seat, and why would I want to be stuck on the far sides or all the way in the front?
Did you have to pawn a gun?Took my kid to watch the Avengers last night. $35 for two tickets (3D) and $46 in food (popcorn, drink, hot dog, pretzel, and nachos). Holy crap that was expensive!
That's a standard movie per day for $9.99/mo and letting them track your movie going with the app. I've even seen yearly subscription deals on occasion for less than $100. If you can't make that work for you then I don't know what to say.
You are correct, if you want to see a standard movie on release day you need to go early enough to be at the front end of the line for good seats. Or early enough to get a good assigned seat at those theaters that do that. If that kills the deal for you then please don't buy a MoviePass, but somehow I think you're trying to hard to find a downside to it.The problem is that if you like seeing movies on release day, you're likely going to get really bad seats if you have to go the theater to pick up tickets. I usually describe it as being better for people that just decide to see a movie on a whim, and go to whatever is playing at that time. Although, there are some theaters that work directly with MoviePass, and those aren't nearly as limited.

I'd pay $30 if my wife and I could watch a movie on the release date (or a week after) on my home theater system. The movie theater's in my area are disgusting. I was never germaphobic until I saw all actual feces on the floor and something really sticky on the seats (we got our money back and left the theater). Now I just wait until the movie is released for streaming.i wish they would release movies in theaters, discs, streaming, all at the same time. let the people decide what they want.
going to theaters is the last thing i want as well. even for the Avengers

Hopefully at least 1 theater in your area will show it.
I wasn't alive yet to see it in a theater when it was new. My home theater setup is nice, but, I want to see it on a 100 foot screen, not a little 8 foot screenYea thats one movie I want to see in a theater, again. When it first came I was 10 and we had just came back from living overseas and my brother took me to see it in a small town theater. All I remember is the ending. But now I watch it all the time. Just amazing what Krubeck did with that eras special effects taht hold up to todays.
The thing is, they like to make this thing called "money" and the way they do it right now makes them hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars due to movie theaters. So don't expect that any time soon.i wish they would release movies in theaters, discs, streaming, all at the same time. let the people decide what they want.

They could just charge more for "early access" to the bluray and make the studios even more money. The thing is, they like to make this thing called "money" and the way they do it right now makes them hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars due to movie theaters. That would involve completely changing distribution and production. I'd assume they've already done studies on all of this and the current method is the best way. Especially now that streaming is probably more popular than physical discs. They could just charge more for "early access" to the bluray and make the studios even more money.
