Ugh... Just spent a couple grand on kitchen countertops.

Here is the sink and countertops that I ordered. Not positive on the exact color of the counters yet, but that's probably the one (or very close to the one.)

Do you have any idea what kind of TV I could've bought instead?!?! 😉

Very old thread revived by spammer with no additional information.

Yes, generally dense rocks are heavy. 😉

Yeah, it's Corian. At first, we were going with granite. But the lack of maintenance with the Corian sold me.

And no... I'm a LONG WAYS from rich.

Counter top (or almost anything for your house) = investment, TV = worth 1/10 it's value in a year or 2 😉

We just got all granite countertops in our kitchen. Total cost for all of the remodeling was almost enough to buy a house in some states.

IIRC there's some attributes with marble that make it unsuitable for countertops - it stains easily, not as tolerant of heat sources, and it's more fragile.

Good luck with your Corian. I was going to have it installed in my kitchen when I remodeled it. After talking to friends who have it and some reading some reviews in home remodel magaznes, Consumer Reports, etc... I decided against it and went with granite. Corian isn't nearly as burn/scratch proof as they say and the built in sinks can crack easily if you drop a pan in them. Had a friend who's wife dropped a spaghetti pot in theirs and it put about a 4 inch crack in the bottom that was hell to get repaired. Still if you are careful with the sink and don't sit hot cookware on the counter you should be fine. It's really great looking stuff, just too bad it's not what it's made out to be and they charge you an arm and leg for it.

I would love to have real marble on my counter tops 🙂

Bought my home in the winter with large piles of snow covering stuff.
In the spring, I found the broken remains of granite countertops stacked behind the garage.
The replaced it with ceramic tile 🙁🙁

I did salvage some and made a smaller countertop for the sunroom with it. The rest is waiting for a project.

I'll probably bee in trouble if I ever have a house with anything other then stone or tile countertops in the future though ... I've gotten to used to setting hot pots on the counter top.

Ceramic tile is great, the wife and I just had our kitchen redone with ceramic counters and a ceramic wall surround. It looks great, to bad we'll be selling the house soon.
🙁

Sure ceramic is nice.
But not as nice as granite.

In any case, Corian is nice.

I have Granite myself, but would have much preferred Silestone - you don't have to seal it like Granite and it won't get burnt like Corian.

When we were looking for a house last year, we came across one that had Corian and it definitely had some burns and a few stains in it that would need to be buffed out. The problem then is that the surface becomes uneven. Still much better than laminate.

No you don't. Marble scratch way to easily and is'nt really used but in bathrooms. I think you mean granite and you can DIY for about 1/3 what a contractor would chrage. Simply get all the measurements and order on'lne.

I have to agree, granite is great. I've heard some horror stories though. Since granite is so heavy if the base is'nt strong the granite will crack or either damage the cabinets that's supporting it. But if that happens the installers usually are responsible. Other than that its great stuff

BTW wings where did you get it? In my first house I had Corian and cost a fortune to have installed ~$5000 and I know we never saw the monies back. But at 2K this is very cheap.
