We were planning on doing hardwood floors now, and countertop in the summer... But we just couldn't pass on the sink deal, which expires tomorrow, iirc.

Yeah, Pergo (or some other similar brand like Anderson) is what we were planning on going with. I am not sure that regular hardwood would stand up to a 60lb dog and a couple of kids skittering around.

But I didn't know about the water issue. Thanks, I'll have to do some more research.

It'll stand up to that alot better then pergo or any laminate will.
With wood floors, anything other then solid wood is a step down in with regard to long term durability.

I'm about to add a granite countertop and undermount sink to my new house too. $3K for 40sqf. Pretty pricey but it's an investment.

Bentwookie, how much did you pay for square foot for your granite?

I told you I got a good deal. I went straight to the fab shop and got the deal. Don't go through a third party like homedepot cause they get a cut of the action and end up contracting the work to a local company, just go straight there and work out a deal.

I did mine for $5.00 a sqft and about $500 in materials and supplies:Q😉 The local contrctor wanted $45 a sqft!!
Plus I learned something which to me is invalueable🙂

There's no way I wanted to mess with carrying a 10x2 foot slab around, I was busy remodelling the rest of the kitchen and building a deck..I gladly paid for that install and never plan on doing anything like it. Granite is messy as hell to fab.

Not that hard with good diamond blades and the slabs came in 60"x25"x3/4 already bullnosed so all I had to do was make a couple linear cuts and seem it with the glue. The sink was a PITA though cuz I wasted one small slab cutting the hole too big the first time. Lots of dust but I did it outside took two days total. Hey If I ever loose my job maybe I can do this😛

It sounds like you got by cheap. Let us know how easy it is to chop vegatables on the counters, once they have been installed.
Yeah, right... As if I'll be taking a knife directly to the countertop. 😉

Pergo isn't so bad, you just have to take care of it. The house I bought has Pergo throughout the living room, breakfast nook, kitchen, and Utility room and it looks great. The people I bought the house from had the flooring put in back in 1999 and it still looks brand new. The woman, who was 76, told me how she took care of them and I follow the same procedure. Basically you just fill a bucket 1/2 way with water, then add a few cups of vinegar, mop the Pergo, let it dry, then go over it with a Swiffer.

That's only 4 years.
Let us know how its doing in another 20 or 30 years.
I realize alot of people don't care ... they don't intend to be in their house that long. But a good hardwood floor will last & look great for decades, but I've seen laminate floors that look like crap in 5 or 10 years.

Do you have any idea what kind of TV I could've bought instead?!?! 😉

I just hope you have it installed properly by someone who knows what they're doing. A crappy job can ruin everything.
