I just flat out don't believe in any of that nonsense and I get downright angry when I see some of the hateful bullshit and lies spread by so called religious people in the name of God.

I get angry too. But I am not a Christian because some prick told me I was going to hell otherwise. You can't ever assume that anyone on this earth is perfect or doesn't make mistakes. There are a lot of terrible churches out there, and I'd rather people not go to church at all if they can't find a good one. Being a Christian isn't about church, but having a group of people that you can count on is definitely necessary. Luckily in most parts of the world, even where it is illegal to be Christian, you can find such a group.

Well fun is subjective, but what you described doesn't sound fun at all. Concerts, card games, and tping houses tends to be more universally fun :p

Sounds like somebody being trained to only enjoy the things their teachers tell them to. I prefer living life and learning from my mistakes, rather than being trained creature of my parents.

youth group = group of people with depression desperately seeking attention

my youth group wasn't like that. it was about young dudes and young chics getting together and fooling around during the High School years in an environment where the parents had no worrisome assumptions about the "wrong crowd."

never were cornered or asked why you left if such happened; there sure as shit wasn't any kind of intervention.

I was born and raised in a christian household. My Mom had my brother and sister and I going to Sunday school and church every week until I was in my teens at which point I had had enough and stopped going.

Sure, the people are nice for the most part but some churches you get the same kind of clickish groups and judgemental people as you do everywhere else in society. They are no better or different or accepting of others than anyone else I've met religious or not and frequently they are worse.

I just flat out don't believe in any of that nonsense and I get downright angry when I see some of the hateful bullshit and lies spread by so called religious people in the name of God.

Every group is going to have good and bad elements, but hopefully there are fewer bad elements in a church environment.

The true Church is the body of believers. Not everyone who goes to church or professes to believe is really a Christian.

Plus, Christians have faults and weaknesses just like anyone else. If you're looking for perfection, then church isn't the place for you.

Christian youth groups may be fun, but from what I hear Jewish summer camps were really the place to get a little nookie. Jews have more fun.

I think there is usually a very big difference between youth groups when you are actually a youth and 'youth' groups for people 18 years and over.

The former typically being fun places for kids to grow up, the latter being pressure-filled groups of people aimed at reaffirming each other's beliefs and/or converting others.

I prefer living life and learning from your mistakes too. Life is a lot better if you avoid making mistakes yourself. I'm not a "trained creature" and it is ridiculous for you to actually think being taught right from wrong is a bad thing. Our society would have died out long ago if it didn't do that.

There is nothing depressing or brainwashed about being a Christian. In fact most Christians would tell you that it is quite the opposite.

You know, the person least qualified to be objective about something is the guy who is actually drinking the kool-aid.

I received my first handy on a church group over night trip. My friend begged me to go, glad I did.

how do you know how to classify a mistake if your personal frame of reference is constantly set at zero?

Sure, there are mistakes that other people can make that are obvious to any outside observer: Don't pull an OJ--but simply b/c you perceive someone else as making a mistake, doesn't exactly make it a mistake.

It's all about your frame of reference. Mistakes are how the vast majority of humans learn. Starting at the youngest of ages. It's funny how you seem to put yourself on this pious, flawless pedestal, a paragon of humanity incapable of making the slightest error. :D

There is no logical reason why I have to be the one making the mistake in order to learn from it. There is also no logical argument for my life being less fullfilling having fewer mistakes. I don't think it is out of line to say my life is therefore better, unless you think making mistakes is a good thing. Which would invalidate the definition of mistake. Which would mean you are from the alternate universe. Where is the real zin?

Tell me more about this meeting that took place at MY HOUSE

It was a serious meeting, though inevitably it wandered a bit into personal and more light-hearted things to take some of the edge off.

No, I wasn't at your house and don't know the background, but presuming this isn't a cult, I provided my take on how I would have expected such a "meeting" to go.

You can find some pretty hot chicks at church. Once upon a time, I corrupted one...

I did too actually. First titties I ever played with without clothing surrounding them...first ass I ever groped too. God, did I ever want to fuck that chick.

Meh, I'm not looking for anything from church or religion at the moment.

Now that I'm thinking about it, when I was like 12, while running the frog pond at the church fair, I got an eyeful, and the understanding that hot older girls might sometimes not wear underpants. Spank bank material that stays with me to this day. Hey, I was younger than she was then....It's legal. Not the same corrupt chick though.

Oh youth group how I miss thee.

lol sorry bro I know I was too lazy :p

-----------------------------------------

Here's some more info:

He seemed to really want to stop going but they guilt tripped him into coming back; scheduled the next youth meet at his house (peer pressure) so it would be easier for him to attend.

Their youth pastor is a married guy w/ no kids -- 30ish

He's a closet case.

I bet he's gay...not that there's anything wrong with that of course.

Closeted gays who sublimate who they are because they're christians are VERY BAD. Constantly lying to yourself and denying important parts of you can lead to major pathologies... think catholic priests.

Sexual repression = bad:
