I doubt the Waitress demanded the 15%. The Waitress most likely confronted the patron in order to find out why they left the small tip, and the patron felt embarrased and coughed up the extra cash. The patron claimed this extra money was "forced" from them, but I hardly think that was the case.

You can feel for these girles that only make $3 an hour bf tips. However, tips are a priviledge not a right. I hate it when they treat customers like dirt and then expect 15%.
My philosophy is that i will always leave at least a 10% tip even if they are worthless (bc i'm a nice guy). If they do well then 15%. If they are over and above i might go 20% just to encourage them to keep it up.
But this girl definately needs to be talked to by her manager. She is giving that restaurant a bad rep just by her attitude.

If they rely on tips to get above that $3 wage then they should earn it properly, not by being rude. And besides if the waiter doesn't make enough tip to earn "minimum wage" the employer has to pay the rest so that it is par with minimum wage.
Also, I dont deduct tip because of lousy food.. Thats not the waiters fault. I only deduct for drink refill time and having to ask for everything, and personality.
That was very aggressive and inappropriate for the waitress to demand a 15% tip. I'd tell her to shove it and ask her what she'd do about it biatch! I would definitely speak to the manager and explain what happened and make sure she gets disciplined.
No, she said to the girl "You didnt not leave 15%" and told her she owed a few more dollars.
Thats the part about it that got me so angry.

I've seen it posted where it was mandatory for large groups of people and for deliveries.
I will tip anywhere from 5-25% depending on service. If the service is exceptionably good I will ask for one of those cards to fill out in which I will comment on the great service and food. If it is lousy nad occasionally when it is superb I will speak with the manager. A manager jumping on their case is alot worse than being stiffed on 1 of 100 tables that they will wait on that day.
For example, the wife and I was at Cracker Barrel a few weeks back. I ordered the country fried steak and the middle of it was quite bloody. The waitress apologized for it and in less than 3 minutes I had a fresh one that was cooked perfectly. The waitress never missed a beat, glass was never below 1/4 before I had another one on the table, brought extra napkins, and stopped by occasionally(not too much to be annoying just whenever they thought we needed them). She received roughly a 22% tip from us including drinks and desert.
Whenever I have to get the busboy or have to flag down another waitress because I have been looking for mine for the last 30 minutes, then they will recieve at most a 10% tip
i would have called the manager over right then and there and told him the waitress why trying to extort money from and that they had permanently lost my business.
My friends had this same encounter at Perkins in Buffalo. They finished playing ball and went to Perkins for late dinner. And the waiter was so friggin slow and rule, asking him for stuff was like committing a crime. After they finished, they left him like a 3% tip. On the way out, he grabs one of my friends and yells at him; then all my friends came back in and screamed at him in front of all the patrons - and threatened to kick his ass if they saw him in school. LOL!
Next time tell her to dress more revealing and to bend over slowly a lot, that you'll tip better that way.
Exactly. I don't think I've ever left no tip, but the last absurdly expensive steak place I went to had particularly poor service, I think I left maybe $10 above the $130 check.
But yeah, if someone's good, I don't mind dropping 20-25% (provided the meal is less than $300).

A person is free to choose their profession in this country. If she has obligations which require a certain specific salary she should endeavor to gain employment which would secure it. I love a good waiter or waitress, they MAKE the meal I tip generously, however I NEVER feel OBLIGATED to leave 15%, because I'm not.
Seriously, have you thought about writing the management. I did this once at a Waffle House of all places. Wrote the local owner of the stores around town and he called me back. My friends and I had actually gotten into a shouting match at 2:00am with the two ladies working. After waiting an hour for out food (no joke) we began to make wisecrakes to ourself. One of the ladies heard one and said something. From there, it was two or three people yelling back at each other...glad no kids were there. Anyway, the next day, I explained what happened and the excuse I was given for my food taking an hour was the cook was new. I suggested that they change their training to avoid having a "new" guy that takes an hour to make a waffle.
After speaking to the local owner, he sent me about 8 passes for free dinner. They were a "Order anything you want" card signed by him. Those were handy over the next few months.

We are already supposed to TIP so the TIP is already included in the meal price. The incentive for waitresses to do a good job is to avoid getting fired, bad service makes customers never come back. I rarely if ever TIP 15%, 10% is more than fair and if I get bad service I don't leave a TIP.
I know in Chicago, that parties of 8 or more are required to leave a 15% tip. It usually says something on the bottom of the menu to that effect.

right. if she does not like the fact she is getting paid ~$3 an hour she should change jobs. IT is NOT my job to make up the extra pay. But i will tip if they do a good job.
I went to a little resturant near where i live and they put 15% percent on the finall tally. well one day i had a really bad waitress and just paid the amount owed minuse the tip. the guy threatened to call the cops on me. i just laughed at him and said fine. he didnt call but told me to never come back.
Which is ok. i never planned on going back i really didnt like the food and there is a new mexican resturant in town that is way better.
