Oh man did this leave me fuming yesterday.. I was going to charge back in there and have a few words with management but the group of people I was with did not want to cause a scene.

We were at a steakhouse yesterday and the service was less then par. The steak I ordered was uncooked in the middle. Not a little to bloody uncooked, but cold and raw. The waitress was annoyed at us the whole time, we had difficulty getting refills on our drinks, and she did not seem to like it that we didnt want dessert.

So we leave, we leave a small tip, because people wanted to, but not the full 15%. One of the girls we were with forgot her cellphone and went up to get it when the waitress stopped her and demanded that she leave the full 15% tip. Being a timid nice girl she gave the waitress the few extra dollars and left.

Bah. Tipping is a reward for good service. I am going to have to write this place a letter and see if anything comes of it.

Oh, man. I guarantee management would be getting a call from me ASAP. The longer you wait the harder it will be to get something done.

Please keep us informed what you do.

WTF?!?!? If the waitress was being a bitch over something like that, she doesn't deserve a red cent for a tip. Accosting the customers and DEMANDING a tip is even worse. I hope you got her name and that the restaurant will do something about it.

My sister and I had a long discussion about this. I am on the side that believes a tip is a, "Hey thanks, you did a great job" for above-par service. But she, who has previously been a bartender at a restaurant, reminded me that waitresses rely on tips to get above their meager $2.65 wage, or whatever they're paid.

Still though, if they want a good tip, they should give you a friendly attitude, even if the service is bad. Attitude is one thing that waitstaff CAN control, even if the food isn't good or the service is slow.

A couple of my friends had a waitress confront them outside the restaurant after they left a subpar tip. I don't think they left extra money tho'.

I had horrible service at that same restaurant on a diff't occasion. I had to ASK for silverware for the 3 of us, as well as for the free chips (Mexican rest.) I think I still left a tolerable 10% tip tho'. Oh yeah, and I asked to speak to the manager, and he was more of an ass than the waitress. Ugh.

That happened to us at a Chinese restraunt on Long Island one time. We left about 10% tip for the lousy service. The waiter chased after us into the parking lot, holding up a calculator and shouting "15 percent, 15 percent!"

If a server did that at one of our restaurants (I work for a mid-sized chain), she would definitely be disciplined or even fired if she had previous problems.

Write a letter, you should get an apology and (I would think) a gift certificate or something.

I left a waiter 2 cents tip once because HE NEVER SHOWED UP during the entire meal (took our order then disappeared). The whole time we kept having to flag down the busboy who spoke no english. Took several tries each for water, more bread, and the check.

Assbite comes running up to me as I leave and starts yelling at me in front of people calling me a coward.

I was going to go get him fired but justice was served automatically a week later when that lousy place went out of business.

yeah, do something about it. dont let that waitress think she can be rewarded for doing a subpar job. once she realizes people wont stand up and cave in everytime, she might think she can get away with it everytime. send a nice, strong message to her and prove her wrong.

IHOP in Sandy Springs(Atlanta). I left 0 for the tip because the waitress was being a bitch. She had the worst attitude about everything. The manager came outside and said he was going to call the cops if we didn't leave a tip. I turned my car off, got out, and went inside the lobby. I said call the cops right now and I will wait the entire time. He decided he didn't want to call them so I told him I would call. That is when he asked me to leave and I did.

Ha, but if you did call them it would have made for a nice laugh for the responding officer!

I'd have her job. End of story.

There is no excuse for that kind of behavior. The waitstaff must NEVER discuss tips or tipping practices with the customers with the exception of answering one question: "what is the customary amount to tip". It's just poor taste.

*sigh* I miss Atlanta. Was that the IHOP in uh... Marietta (?) right near that Best Buy and that HUGE Olive Garden. I can't remember the name of the street, but it is the one north west of downtown with all of those car dealerships.

Hmmm, when my family went to the '96 Olympics we ate at an IHOP that was right across the street from a CarMax mega-used-car-dealership. Not sure if that's the one you're thinking of though (we stayed about 50 miles outside of ATL).

Mr. Pink: I'm very sorry the government taxes their tips, that's messed up. That ain't my fault. It would seem to me that waitresses are one of the many groups the government screws over on a regular basis. Look, if you ask me to sign something that says the government shouldn't do that, I'll sign it, put it to a vote, I'll vote for it, but what I won't do is play ball. And as for this non-college crap I got two words for that: learn to type, 'cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent you're in for a big surprise.

had to clean it up a bit, hence some missing words and some re-worded ones. :D

If a waitress in the states ever stopped me to ask me to leave more tip I would walk back to the table, take every cent I had originally left for tip and then leave.

I had a guy ask me for more tip once in jamaica, I didn't mind b/c I knew that begging is pretty much a way of life down there for many... yet that doesn't mean I left more tip. I just smiled and walked out.
