UFO: Afterlight is turn-based 3D strategy game of exploration, research, development, and survival. This is the third game in a series developed by a team called Altar Games. (The preceding titles were UFO: Aftermath and UFO: Aftershock.) As you might have guessed, Afterlight continues the story, after a fashion.

You are placed in control of a tiny (and I really mean tiny!) seed-colony of humans on Mars. As the introductory cinematic explains, 50 years previously the earth was invaded by a race known as the Reticulans.

So happy that they ditched Starforce...friggin evil program.

But StarForce prevents pirating and helps keep legitimate users honest, it is like mana from heaven for the publishers and the consumer will never notice that it is there like a watchful mother ever vigilant so that one cannot be corrupted.

Wonder if they're going to use SecureRom7.

Even the starforce games have been cracked. I'm all for protections but when it interferes with the legitimate users then it shouldn't be used.

Dethfrumbelo there's a thread on the graphics here ,personally I think they look ok,gameplay will be the key.

Is there going to be a demo? As much as I want this game, I'm not convinced how good it will end up being.

whats coming out first, ufo afterlight or ufo extraterrestrials?

In theory Afterlight is ,release date is anyway from 9th to 16th depending where you go,Extraterrestrials has a release date of 28th Feb.

how were the earlier 2 games in the series? ... i see they are below bargain bin prices

worth playing?

. . . and i am no longer worrying about StarFarce/SecureCrap ... all these "infected" games and programs will end up 'together' --on a separate HD. 😉

appoppin ,the first 2 were decent,2nd one(Aftershock) added research etc ,first one was harder gameplay wise IMHO,however there were demo's available for both of them so try the demo's.

Aftermath demo.

Aftershock demo.

Yeah, these games are not for everyone. Have you ever played Jagged Alliance? Think that except with aliens - a semi-realtime tactical squad game with base-building/research done on a global map.

Definitely try the demo first.

I liked the tactical combat of Aftershock, but it got extremely repetitive in final stretch. And yes, I actually managed to get to the moon and finish it.

AFAIK, it does not matter what HD you install them on because starforce messes with your operating system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarForce

thanks ... not my cup of tea 😛

i am finishing NWN2, have PREY [*beautiful game*], , FEAR's Xpack, Gun, Kts of the Nine, Fable LC, even HL2's CH1, FC's Matto 4 [3-2-1] all *first* ... ahead of any demo [which is a PitA to D/L over dial-up]

that's why i depend on you guys

thinking back, '06 was an excellent year for PC gamers ... unless you *restricted* yourself to FPS ... then they were few and far-in-between and the ones that were were short and many were *continuations* of earlier games ... little 'new' besides PREY

and i can't get over the gfx in PREY ... it is the pinnacle of what the D3 engine can do ... leaps and bounds ahead of Q4 [at least in the beginning]

lozina:I'm sure you should be able to find a US retail store that will be selling the game on day of release.

Remember it does say,
Do you know about another site in your country where to order UFO: Afterlight? Let us know at info@altargames.com. We will list them here.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I forgot it was coming out.

It's a rough month for me. WoW expansion is out, which eats up all my time. I also bought a copy of NWN2 which I haven't touched yet. And now this one is coming... woe is me

PLayed the demo thought it was just ok for some reason the game pauses every time a character tells you something. WHile controlling 4-5 characters the game will pause 4-5 times to let you know something has happened kinda annoying.

Overall though seems like a good game for fans of this kind of thing.

Going by memory you could disable that in the earlier UF0 games, being a demo you won't have that many options, expect the full game to allow that to be disabled.
