Good stoppage IMO. Big difference between letting a LW or WW swarm for a TKO and letting a HW like JDS swarm. I also agree that Frank Mir was obviously not the best choice, and a rubber match with Velasquez would have been far far better, but there was a lot of emotion behind the fight and logistics that just made Frank Mir the next choice. It also lets the UFC build up massive hype for the rematch with Velasquez (Mexico vs Brazil?) or the return of the Dutchman

The last attack showed how much JDS was playing with Mir.

Not a great fight, but easy.

Seems to me that Mir didn't want to fight. Was he scared?

scared? no. I don't like Mir but he was not afraid.

Mir is a great fighter. While not as good as he was years ago (he has issues with coming in shape) he is not someone to over look. I didn't think he had a chance against JDS but if he got it to the ground he had a shot.

I can see the same thing that happened to Mir happening to Chael Sonnen...

Hardy's left hook was a thing of beauty.

Varner got an impressive win; good to see him back in the UFC. He had a tough go in WEC. He may get a crack at some of the guys that beat him there. Still think they are bad match ups for him. Particularly cowboy and Henderson.

Struve jumped guard; I like it when they listen to me. :p

Cain beatdown bigfoot in even more brutal and spectacular fashion than I expected. I think he has the best chance of beating JDS. Werdum would get KTFO again.

Big Country has really turned into a good gate keeper. He beats everyone that is not elite. And forces the top guys to work hard to get a W against him.

To correct a couple of thing I read here:

233lbs -13lbs is 220lbs, light heavyweight is 205. Herman could slim down enough to make weight though, so we still agree. The reason I think some guys prefer to be small HWs. is that they often have a speed advantage there. Fedor is a great example of that IMO. They would not enjoy that at LHW. Power is great and all, but meaningless if you cannot land clean.

JDS v. Cain would not be a rubber match. That is the term for when they have each beaten each other once, and fight for a 3rd time.

And Mir may not have been a good match up, but he was definitely the best choice. He was the only top contender on a winning streak over the division's tougher competition. Now that Cain beat a good fighter in a dominant manner, the rematch is much more compelling.

Many, myself included, think Cain had ring rust and all the other issues that go with returning from surgery. JDS will have his hands full stuffing take downs in the next fight. Because Cain will be looking for the duck under, and doubtless fake a few shots, to set up big punches.

I can't help but think what would have happened if Overeem fought JDS. Overeem would have run over JDS, which would have been awesome.

Mir just looked like he was fighting in slow motion and it was a pretty easy fight for JDS.

doubtful.

Mir looked bad. No way would i say overeem would have run over JDS. Overeem is slow with bad defence. sure he hits hard but would he be able to withstand JDS's boxing? not sure on that.

it would have been a great fight though. to bad he had to and get caught juicing.

Sorry if JDS game plan would of been to bang with Overjuiced then JDS would of left the ring on a stretcher. Overroid is a K1 champ. Anderson Silva wouldn't make it in a k1 match.

JDS wouldn't have stood toe to toe. just like he didn't get on the ground with Mir. He is actually a smart fighter.

i suspect he would have used his speed and power. Overeem is slow but very powerful. go in hit and run.

either could win it. both have the power to end it in 1 punch (or knee). I wouldn't say overeem would "walk over" jds.

JDS doesn't have anything in his arsenal that Overeem hasn't seen in K-1. As for take downs, good luck with that. Overeem has damn good take down defense. JDS will have to stand up with Overeem, and he will lose. JDS has decent speed with his hands, but nothing I'd call "fast." He looked fast in this last fight only because Mir was slower than shit. If you want fast, take a look at Gokhan Saki, and Overeem beat him. Saki was hurt though, and I'd love to see another rematch when he is 100%.
