AND STILL the most boring champion of the world

Yea if you dont understand jujitsu. MMA knowledge fail.

Watching the fight, it got me thinking, what would have happened if GSP did break Hardy's arm or dislocated his shoulder. Would it be a NC or would it count like a KO and a win?

Damn, how did Hardy not tap? Props to that guy...that's mighty impressive on his part.

And say what you want about GSP, but it's no diff than all the old school guys GNP.

Why the hell would it count as a NC? You just bashed someone for MMA knowledge fail. Wow...you are an idiot.

Wow, those fights didn't go exactly as I thought, to say the least.

Carwin has got some SERIOUS power. I can't wait to see him fight Brock. During the 'staredown' I couldn't help but notice how much BIGGER Lesnar was than Carwin, it was quite significant.. Still, good fight coming up, and regardless of the outcome of that, we get JDS or Cain taking the winner of that.

Hardy made a fan of me tonight. He's alot like Brock to me when he fought Mir the first time. He's got a hole in his game that he needs to tune up. Solidify that ground game and takedown defense and be a Liddell-type sprawl 'n brawler. He's one tough hombre.

I'm just surprised that Hardy didn't practice his take down defense. It's been pretty clear that if GSP faces a good striker, he will take them down, ground and pound, or go for a submission. He won't risk it and stand up if his opponent has had viscous KO's.

Good points. Hardy is one tough bastard. And GSP just takes you down and wears you out. If it works, why would he change it? Funny how "on paper" this was one of the best cards in about a year. In the ring it wasn't that great. Decent, but not all that. I guess that's why they don't fight on paper...

Oh, and incidentally, what did Damian Maia due to earn a bout w/ Anderson Silva? Last thing I knew, he fought the main contender for this weight class (Nate Mardquart) and got knocked out in 8 seconds of the first round.....

The original fight was scheduled to be Anderson vs Vitor Belfort who had to withdraw due to injury. Marquart lost to Chael Sonnen, who will get the winner of 112. Not that I agree with Maia over Sonnen (I think Maia vs Anderson will be just like the Leites fight) but that's how it shook out. Sonnen will get a shot at the winner. OK, I mean Sonnen will get to fight Anderson at his next title defense after 112. 🙂

EDIT: I see why. Sonnen lost to Maia.

There's a big difference between practicing takedown defense and executing said defense against the best takedown artist in MMA. Everyone knows what GSP is going to do, there's just no one @ 170 who can do anything about it.

At this point I don't think anyone will be surprised to see GSP jump up to 185.

you bash someone on MMA knowledge then say that? WTF .

teh first fight between fitch and whatever his name was was teh best fight of the night.

went kinda like i figured. Carwin knock out in the first and GSP domination though that fight lasted longer then i thought.

overall a good PPV well worth the money i paid

I know I’m a bit late here but I’m usually only on this forum M-F… A few thoughts:

GSP-Hardy

GSP did what I thought he’d do facing a striker like Hardy, although I’d be lying If I said I expected it to be as lopsided as it was. IIRC Hardy never landed so much as a clean shot nor did he ever come close to stopping one of George’s takedowns. IMO Alves looked more dangerous…hopefully he (Alves) can come back healthy. I think Alves vs. Hardy would be a fantastic fight.

Mir-Carwin

Wow. I never gave Carwin so much as a chance and boy was I wrong. I could not understand WTF Mir was doing. Sure you want to pace yourself, but you KNOW Carwin’s game plan and you let him execute it anyway. What, did you think you could just think those punches away? That somehow if you relaxed enough in the clinch, those short uppercuts would hurt less? He did this same shit against Lesnar, and it’s baffling to me. New muscles or not, Mir was looking past Carwin to Lesnar and the result here is evidence of that.

Other fights:

Fitch is a beast. He’s looking really really good. Too bad for him he’s a welterweight. If GSP moves up, I can see Fitch capturing the belt.
As much as I like Jim Miller, Bocek got robbed on that decision.
Rousimar Palhares…WTF hold on to that leg lock a bit longer? That was bush league and I feel bad for that poor bastard who’s knee may not ever be the same.
Nate Diaz FTW! Awesome performance by the younger Diaz. Now if we can only get Nick back in the UFC…
Kurt Pellegrino – amazing escape from that choke. Pretty sure that concussed the Brazilian, as he didn’t look the same after that. Surprisingly good fight here.

Overall this event was well worth my money. Fantastic night of fights.
