round 3 was machida
round 4 was rua
round 5 rua

Round 1 and 2 was Shogun. Without a doubt!

In 1,2,4,5, Shogun controlled the pace, landed more punches and kicks and responded to all of Machida's offense. I missed round 3, but 1,2,4,5 was all Shogun. Saying it went either way is completely wrong. Machida didn't show up.

yeah, if i had to make a choice, i woulda given rua rounds 1 and 2 as well. i'm just thinking those are the rounds that the judges may have given to machida.

I couldnt resist as I overheard some of my boys talkin about the fight and checked this thread out anyways. I liked how this thread turned out. lol

That was far from "a hell of a fight".

While I do think Rua technically won the match, it wasn't enough to beat Machida. Rogan was hyping the leg kicks too much. Even ones that were blocked ot checked, rogan was like "OMG that leg kick could cut through 2" steel plate!"

But the other fights were good. Velasquez was dominating Rothwell
Sonnen was impressive, but I don't know what Okami was thinking

Regardless of the outcome, Rua fought an insane fight technically and strategically. And I would not want to take any of his kicks, the guy's thighs are about the size of my chest, lol. Unfortunately, tho his kicks landed quite a bit, nothing made Machida wobble so much that he looked vulnerable at any given time.

Having heard the decision and reading comments and then watching it, I agree Shogun won the fight.

The only thing I can think of is that comment about convincingly beating the champion. While Shogun got the points and clearly won on number of strikes landed, etc., he didn't make Machida look ever in danger of being knocked out or seriously hurt.

But yeah, in the end Shogun got robbed. Anyway you look at it, he won the fight. I was surprised Machida didn't press him near the end, pretty disappointed by his performance.

anyhow i think machida should have lost as well

Rogan is a pathetic BJJ nutthugger. yes Shogun landed some awesome kicks, but there were many times where the kick landed either just before or just after Machida hit him with a hard straight right. What do you think Rogan did every time? "OMGWTFBBQ KICK KICK KICK!" He totally ignored 95% of the strikes Machida landed. I watched the fight a 2nd time with the volume off. It was close, Shoguns kicks did do more damage, but he in no way dominated Machida. And to be man you gotta beat the man. This is how Forrest Vs Rampage should have ended. If you don't win convincingly you shouldn't win a championship fight.

And OCguy lost 200 bucks so EVERYONE wins, well except for him.

The best was where I watched it I had bet a guy $25, when round 5 ended he said "double or nothing!" before it was announced. Since I couldn't lose any money I said sure why not. $50 richer WOO HOO.
