You installed it on a Dell 1525 right? Well how is your sound working? Because I cannot get sound to come out at an audible level out of my laptop speakers. I know it's playing if I listen really closely, but it's not practical at all.

I just upgraded my 1525 last night no problems to 9.04. Still haven't enabled Compiz for anything though, never got it to work under 8.10 and I don't really care either way whether or not I have the effects so I probably won't bother with it.

I do like having 64-bit flash though

The cloud computing part looks really cool. When the next LTS is released I might try to find a use for it here at the college.

my 9.04 on my notebook is running better now... still has some graphics issues 4500 though good enough.

It seems the issue with Intel graphics is known and quite widespread with the new drivers. Seems like it went this way after they added GEM, DRI2 etc. Let's hope they fix it up soon.

Unfortunately, this will taint the Linux experience for many new users. Especially if they don't expect to have it fixed until 9.10.

Yeah the owners of canonical are trying to gain marketshare. They really need to focus more on intel graphics.

When i bought this laptop i knew that intel graphics suck, buttt i thought it would be better the gma 950 i had. The 4500 is an upgrade of the 950-->3100 --> 4500

I had hopes

I also hoped ati catalyst 9.4 would bring changes for my 4870 alas.

Up to this point Intel's Open source Linux drivers have been excellent- it's annoying when they hit a hiccup like this but I have every faith that it'll be rectified as soon as possible given their good track record. Also, you could always try the open source ATI drivers?

From all the threads on the ubuntu forum, everyone says the drivers from ATI are much better?

HOw does your 4870 run? Does sleep work? Is there tearing in videos, compiz?

I downgraded back to 8.10 because computer started getting heavy lag, im a linux noob though.

did you run top in terminal to see what might be causing it?

I get bad lag due to xorg using 80-100% cpu
