I ran 8.04 under vmware in XP. I upgrade 8.04 to 8.10 and it seemed to screw up my vmware stuff. Now I can't move my mouse in and out of the vmware guest window without using the hotkeys.

On my laptops, 8.10 updated fine and runs fine. I changed the default wallpaper though.. A bit creepy for my taste.

The seamless mouse transitions are handled by VMWare Tools installed in the guest OS. Try and reinstall those and see if it's fixes your problem.

I've tried that route too. Unfortunately VMtools 1.07 can't compile (as part of the config step through install.sh).. and when I skip the compiling part (to compile specific for distro), everything works but I have to start up vmtoolbox myself to get access to the features.

Even on a new install of 8.10, vmtools won't compile and the features don't autostart as it did in 8.04.

I just settled and had gnome autostart it, but I would prefer not to see the vmtoolbox application, which never showed up before. Minor issue I can live with for now.

The Ubuntu 8.10 release was awesome for me. It fixed the touchpad and scrolling on my laptop. It also seemed a lot more polished. I had 8.04 until a broken package broke it. After that I gave up on linux as a desktop OS. I might put it back though. I will wait to try Fedora 10 before I put Ubuntu again.

I can't tell much of a difference with 8.10, although there have been some nice changes. I'm happiest about the new standard support of scrolling sideways with the middle mouse roller. That annoyed me so much before and I couldn't seem to fix it through scripts.

What version of VMWare are you using? I had VMWare Server 1.x running under Ubuntu 8.04. I upgraded to 8.10 and as expected it broke VMWare Server. I tried to do the usual recompile when the kernel update breaks it but that failed. Rather than troubleshoot it I decided to upgrade to VMWare Server 2.x. Everything seems to be fine so far - still trying to figure out how to 'import' a USB device to the XP virtual machine though...

The two biggest changes for me is the support for P45 based motherboards is now solid, but the support for my KWorld 115 tuner card is broken (needs to be patched).

Other then that, it looks about the same as 8.04 to me.

After using 8.10 for about 3 weeks, there is one annoying bug that I cannot seem to replicate anywhere except in this one room in the lab I work in. When connected wirelessly, the computer will just freeze up at random times and need a hard reboot - the caps lock light also blinks when this happens. It's annoying though, as it only happens in 1 room. I have yet to see it happen anywhere else, which is good, but it doesn't solve the underlying problem.
