Thread @ ubisoft forums

cliffs:

Apparently people are having all sorts of copy protection errors with Vegas2. Ubisoft hasn't been able to fix them for most users, so some people with legal copies have resorted to using a no-dvd crack by the scene group RELOADED to get around the copy protection so they can play their game. Ubisoft has banned users from discussing the no-dvd crack on their forums, even banning some users apparently.

So now ubisoft released a patch to fix the game. Someone opened it up in a hex editor and noticed they stole, renamed, and distributed RELOADED's no-dvd crack and passed it off as their own patch.

LOL

If this is in the wrong forum, whatever.

Yeah, I saw this earlier today. Amazing that these software publishers don't realize that all their fricking copy protection does is penalize legitimate users, while those who would pirate teh game anyways just don't have to deal with that stuff.

It'd be too much to hope for for game publishers to learn something from this experience.

Ubisoft did actually remove the "Starforce" protection from some of it's games due
to customer complaints...

Ironic that the pirates are bitching about having THEIR software stolen.

Haha, that's great. It just goes to show that most of these anti-piracy measures only hurt the people who actually buy the product. The pirates always find a way around them.

What would be funny is if RELOADED hired a lawyer and went after UBI for copyright infringement, asking for the same ridiculous compensation as the RIAA, BSA, and MPAA always demand. Lets see, that's $180,000 per copy of our program distributed, here is the invoice for $38,024,0632,123 -- we take credit cards :p
