If I were insuring your vehicle, and you told me it was now in Taxi service, I'd want to jack up your rates. What do insurance companies do when you tell them you are now using your car in Taxi service?

I have a feeling that there must be enough insurance companies who would love to get in bed with Uber and offer that insurance to their "contractor drivers". Uber would get cut from the insurance premiums and the insurance company would have guaranteed customers. Win win (and loss for the drivers)

Retroactively. After you've had an accident. Totalled your car? Too bad. Your insurance isn't valid. Doesn't even matter if you weren't doing uber at the time. If they get a whiff of it, say goodbye to your insurance.

They're not wrong about general purpose all weather service. However in a defined well mapped area they will be ready very soon. That what most people thing the initial roll out will be. Downtown urban areas on a SDC taxi front. Consumers will probably see a highway mode first. Probably wouldn't be hard to do an airport to downtown SDC taxi in most areas.

I use Lyft now but noticed they had 50% to 75% prime time so I waited 10 to 20 mins and then got no prime time rate!

Uber had the same thing but they call it surging. I was testing it in my city and sure enough the surge went down to normal rates after 10 to 20 minutes of wait time.
