Whole fleets of vehicles are natural gas powered, Ozoned, and drilling for more allows more oil to be allocated for vehicle fuel.
And, uhh, the majority of people were all for invading Iraq, at the time, all for cutting taxes at the top in pursuit of trickle-down economic goodness flimflam, and very, very happy when they could refi for 125% of ridiculously overblown housing valuations, too...
The story of the Bush Admin has been to be careful of what you wish for, because they probably put the idea in your head in the first place, and because it won't be what you expected, either...
The Rightwing has been pumpin' sunshine up America's skirt since the 80's...
lol... talk about pumpin' sunshine...

The objective all along has been to induce America to consume, and to make conservation strategies less appealing. The more we spend, the more the guys at the top profit- whether that's oil, natural gas, housing, defense or criminal acts of pre-pre-emptive war, it's all the same.
The more you sell, the more you make. We'd be better off in the long run to save some of our domestic energy for the future, invest in conservation measures and strategies which would actually create more jobs and more sustainable wealth than more drilling...
