U.S. rebukes first Russian airstrike in Syria

Ha, I was thinking something similar. Russia is helping Assad, so we should give stinger missiles to ISIS just to make things interesting.
:awe:

Does it ever seem like these proxy wars are just tech demos? Sort of like video games that but only exist to show what a game engine can do? Russia bombs ISIS to show how powerful Russia is, and then we give MANPADS to ISIS to show how much Russia sucks? Meanwhile, neither side actually cares about the conflict?

btw, I would like to inform everyone that the domain manpads.com is available. If you want to make a parody website about men wearing maxi pads, here's your chance.

I always thought MANPADS was a bizarre acronym for shoulder launched SAMs.

"We're going to be out in the bush for a couple days"
"Okay, I'll grab an extra canteen, also, make sure we have MANPADS. We don't want to get caught with our pants down."

Russians are cleaning Al-Nusra which is an arm of Al-Qaeda, they are cleaning all rdical Sunni fractions. Power to Russians !!

Everyone were cursing at the beheadings and other stuff these guys (Radicals) were doing just weeks ago, you and we could not do anything, Russians are doing it, what is this nonsense about supplying Al-Nusra and others stinger missiles ? Are you out of your minds or are you hypocrites ?

Is this a multiple choice question?

If so, could the answer be both of the above i.e. out of their minds and hypocrites?

It was a joking reference to the Soviet war in Afghanistan. For the record, I do not believe we should be arming anyone with Stinger missiles. 🙄

Playah wants to play.

Go for it I say. I guess Afghanistan is as far back in the Russian people's minds that Putin thinks it now safe to get belligerent in the Mideast again.

Nothing like learning a lesson over again.....the hard way.

It's Russia.

It seems they always have to do things in the most painful way imaginable.

Russia, China, Iran, Iraq, and Syria have entered into a powerful Middle East alliance. Their objective is power, and security. To defeat ISIS and stop US arming of terrorists.

If we'd stop arming terrorists, we could have a seat at the table.
Learn the lesson of Iraq you retarded US leaders. Assad is the only answer just as Saddam was. Stop repeating the same mistakes.

Agee 100%, and why doesn't USA government doesn't go to take out Assad out of power like they did with mussain in Irak, i know why, because they cowards and only butt with weak nations, with Powerful nations or nations that are supported by Russian, china,Noth Corea, they really get afraid, cowards.

Obama wanted to a few years ago. He got severe backlash and instead fabricated the Khorasan Group about a year ago to justify bombing within the country.

Iran troops to join Syria war, Russia bombs group trained by CIA

BEIRUT/MOSCOW (Reuters) - Hundreds of Iranian troops have arrived in Syria to join a major ground offensive in support of President Bashar al-Assad's government, Lebanese sources said on Thursday, a further sign of the rapid internationalization of a civil war in which every major country in the region has a stake.

Russian warplanes, in a second day of strikes, bombed a camp run by rebels trained by the CIA, the group's commander said, putting Moscow and Washington on opposing sides in a Middle East conflict for the first time since the Cold War.

Looks like Iran and Hezbollah will be doing the dirty work on the ground while Russia provides air support...and I see that we're now on official notice for the possibility of "unintended incidents". Looks like they're completely ignoring Obama's warning....surprise, surprise.

Genx87 posting links to the Intercept up in this thread

Republicans are all about Obama. If Putin makes Obama look bad, they cheer.

I don't really care what the mouthbreathers think, but this is all fascinating and happening very quickly. Hassan Rouhani has been silent on Twitter. Last tweet was two days ago on their commitment to the JCPOA.

As far as "unintended incidents" are concerned, nothing would shock me more than Iranian or Russian forces engaging American forces. We'll see what comes of that.

The interesting twist here is that Russia isn’t going after ISIS (at least right now), they're attacking the Free Syrian Army.

According to Russia, they are attacking all "terrorist groups" regardless of what they call themselves.

"Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said Russian airstrikes again struck strongholds of an American-backed rebel group, Tajamu Alezzah, in central Hama province."

McCain is also saying that they've hit "Western" backed groups.

Check the map. Russia is attacking positions that are adjacent to their controlled area. Why would they start on the opposite side of the country when the goal is to take everything?

They'll get there.

Did you touch yourself when you typed "Obama does indeed look bad?"
Obama botches everything he touches: Libya, Iran, Russia, and Syria. Sorry I had to be the one to tell you something you didn't especially want to hear.

Remember when Romney said Russia is “without question, our No. 1 geopolitical foe”? Obama naively responded a couple months later: “Gov. Romney, I’m glad you recognize al-Qaida is a threat, because a few months ago when you were asked what is the biggest geopolitical group facing America, you said Russia, not al-Qaida,” Obama said. “You said Russia. And the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back. Because the Cold War has been over for 20 years."

Reagan did his part in helping end the Cold War in the 80s...looks like Mr. Reset's naivete is going to start another.

How much do you think the constant undermining of Obama by the Republican controlled congress has emboldened Putin?

Intelligent US leaders would stop arming terrorists. They would accept Assad in Syria, and sit down with the Russian alliance and offer to provide resources and cooperation for the common goal of eliminating ISIS. With a seat at the table our economic and military might would allow us to dominate the alliance and take the lead from Russia down the line.

If our leaders were intelligent... but I'm afraid they're dumb as bricks.

How was Obama to know that Putin would believe him?

In my opinion, we should have stayed far away from involving ourselves in Syria's civil war just as we should have done in Libya. How Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize is beyond me.
