Tyco Electric Slot Car Racing

Dedpuhl

Lifer
After 12 years in a box, I have unearthed my long lost Tyco racing kit. I have 8 cool lookin cars and an banked curve expansion kit. I knew the track may not work but I was willing to give it a whirl.

I made a very small oval to see if it worked. I plugged in the power and was all excited. I plopped one of the cars down.....pressed the trigger button...and BAM....nothing. 🙁 I figured, hey, the car was broken. I put all the cars on the track and it still didn't work. I pressed down on the front end of the car and i saw that it was getting some juice. I tested all the pieces of the loop but putting the car on em and pushing down. There was power going through all the pieces. The cars wont run, though.

Anybody have any suggestions on what I can do to make it work? All of the cars motors will work if i press down on the front ends of the cars. The connectors hit the track fine. the little metal strips appear to be raised enough so that there is a solid connection.

you may have to clean the connections... the little springy connectors on the bottom of the cars, and then the metal track. Try using an eraser.

???

Man, the memories you just brought up by mentioning those slot cars....

Make sure every piece of track is clean and untarnished. The best thing to clean these with is a nikel - lay it flat on the metal strips and rub it along the direction of the track - it will scrape up the tarnish.

I know what you mean. Those were the good 'ole days...

I miss my race track.🙁 My was the slotless kind that you could switch lanes and ram the other guy with your car.

Hey, slot track racing is not dead. There's some nice stuff out there still, but it does cost. I bought my youngest son his first set this year for Christmas. Of course, Dad has to show him how it's done ... just like with the model rockets, those damn AirHogs planes that fly off on you and end up 2 fields over in a tree, etc. ... 🙂 🙂 🙂

Freaky...I was just watching that Simpsons episode 5 minutes ago.

I went one step further and found a combo piece that allows my tyco cars to go over a HO model train crossing. Now to get a big enough board to combine the two tracks!
