Two video cards at the same resolution

Could a 5850 turn as much eye-candy on as a 5870 at a resolution like 1600x1200? Things like anti-aliasing, etc. If they're equal at that resolution, I'd like to know. Thanks.

The 5870 is faster than the 5850, and thus will be able to run games at slightly higher settings.

Thanks, is it worth getting a 5xxx series card with non-standard cooling or does it not make much of a difference? I'm not sure how hot or loud they are by default. Thanks.

When I'm playing games I can't really hear it cus I'm playing games and things are loud but you can definitely hear a slight woosh sound depending on the game and how hard it taxes the card.

At 1680x1050 memory bandwidth/VRAM requirements will be lower, but the HD5870 still has the faster GPU.

A 5870 is always going to push more frames per second, but you will likely not be able to tell a difference between the two cards at that resolution.

I have a 4890, which is only 4 fps less than the 5850 on that chart. Crysis is playable, but an absolute horrible experience with a card struggling along like that.

You thought Crysis at 34FPS was a horrible experience? I played through the whole game at 25-30FPS and it felt fine to me.

Is the Vapor-X 5870 worth hanging around for to come in stock or is that a lost cause? In the meantime I'm going to be without a gaming card, so the wait might hurt. Thanks.

If you're at 1600x1200, grab a 5850 and be merry. I only recommend the 5870 if you absolutely demand the fastest single GPU out there, which, for 1600x1200, you don't need. On top of that, the 58xx series overclock very well, and a 5850 can easily surpass 5870 stock speeds.

The stock 5870 is one of the quietest cards I've owned, even in games there's only a "whoosh" of air coming out of it, no fan noise.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I was just planning on getting a 5870 in the event that I got a larger monitor. Thanks.
