Two more weeks and then I'm leaving

I'm spending my vacation this year driving down to the SARA conference in Greenbank, WV. 😀 Basically, it's the annual meeting of "The Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers". I'm hoping to pick up some good info on getting my 12' dish up and running a little sooner so I can find some of those pesky pulsars on my own. 😀

I don't suppose there are any TA members who are also going to be attending, are there? I'll have my Blazer with its distinctive "TA SETI" license plate, so I'll be easy to pick out of the crowd. 😛

If there are any TA members going, or if you live in the vicinity and would like to meet up and for some talk and food, let me know via PM. I'll be in Greenbank for 5 or 6 days.

Good grief, between 12' (inches?) and coquito needing 'release', I just don't know what to make out of this thread.

Greenbank there was the start of Seti... long ago..., or better says that was a Point where People are talk about Seti, or

the first time man searched for signals of possible extraterrestrial intelligence

http://www.bigear.org/vol1no1/ozma.htm

Independently of Cocconi and Morrison, Frank D. Drake, an astronomer at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, Green Bank, West Virginia, was formulating plans to conduct an actual search. Drake was 29 when, on April 8, 1960, he turned the 85-foot Howard Tatel telescope of the observatory toward the star Tau Ceti. Project "Ozma" had begun and for the first time man searched for signals of possible extraterrestrial intelligence. In this article Drake shares with you his feelings and emotions as the historic project progressed. It is a real-science thriller. -Eds.

Good Travels, and all the best...

Greetings from Germany NRW
sad that i have no time to met the conference, i hope you will inform us for the NEWS
Sir Ulli

That's a promise, SirUlli. 🙂 I'm planning to take my digital camera along to snap some shots of the dishes and equipment at NRAO, assuming they'll let me.

I'm also planning a couple stops in Ohio on the way back for a tour of old planes at an aerospace museum and to visit old people like RaySun2Be! 😛

Ooooo! Where-abouts in Ohio? I know the old folk's home in Columbus is a stop if you're visiting Rowdy Ray. 😉 Which museum? Please tell!

My understanding is that there is a USAF Museum in Dayton, OH that I'm interested in touring. And, of course, I wanted to visit my friend Dennis aka RaySun2Be while in Ohio too, so a detour to Columbus is in order. I'd like to meet other TA members such as yourself OhioDude if we can arrange a meeting. 🙂

There is THE US Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH. 😉 It is absolutely the BEST aircraft museum in the world (with the possible exception of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum). Get there as early as possible (like when it opens) and plan to stay until closing. You really need multiple days to take in everything.

Maybe we can work out a visit while you're in the area. I'm about two hours northeast of Columbus so I can drive down that direction if I'm available while you're here. I'll be doing some travelling this month so it will depend on when you'll be in the Columbus area.

Who are you calling OLD? Careful with stuff like that, or I'll give ya a *Whack* with my cane of smiting! 😛

That goes double for you, OhioDude! 😛
