Two more infants have been infected with a deadly herpes virus in the last three months after undergoing a controversial religious oral circumcision in New York City.
The latest cases bring the count to 13 infants since 2000, two of which suffered brain damage and two died from the virus which can rapidly spread throughout its body.
The ultra-Orthodox Jewish practice of metzitzah b'peh requires a practitioner to orally suck the baby's penis to 'cleanse' the open wound following its circumcision, making them susceptible to the virus.




The department of health says one of the latest infants to contract the virus developed a fever and a lesion on its scrotum, seven days after the procedure. The boy later tested positive for HSV-1. That virus differs from HSV-2, the genital herpes, which is contracted during sexual intercourse.

This makes me sad because this has been going on since 2000. 13 infants...pretty much amounts to a baby a year. 😱
 
Absolutely disgusting are these people. The parents should be ashamed of themselves and should face child abuse charges along with the practitioners involved.
 
Just further confirmation that while most people are fine, many people with an excessive adherence to religion (even if their "religion" is atheism) are creepy.
 
This practice has no place in America. White Christians and Jews are perfectly eager to ban the building of mosques in New York City, but kill babies by tearing off pieces of their genitals with your mouth? Not a word of condemnation.

In fairness I think most Christians and Jews would agree this practice is to be condemned.

Here in Minneapolis we have one of the largest Somali populations in the US, and female genital mutilation is practiced. I've read that up to 95% of Somali girls undergo it. My view is that it's barbaric and anyone who participates in it (including parents) should be prosecuted, just like the ultra-orthodox Jews in the OP.

What else but religion would make it acceptable to cut off parts of your child's body?

Could a parent grab their newborn and cut off their ear? No. How about a toe? No. What if it was a long established religious tradition? Oh, then proceed!

No. You think you do. What you fail to understand is you see radicalism in everything Islam. Guy has a beard? Must be a terrorist. Children want to be able to pray during school hours? What a bunch of fucking radical extremists.

You also advocate for rights for Christians that you oppose for Muslims. I've linked many times to your contradictions. You're about the only one who doesn't recognize it..

That was an article by Pamela Geller and she made some good points about his attitude. Children shouldn't be praying in school during school time, thats tax dollars being wasted and separation of Church and state must be enforced.

Ignoring the fact that you have also advocated in favour of prayer at school sanctioned events as well as student lead prayer for Christians, and whined about free speech while arguing that Muslims shouldn't have the right to burn a poppy, how does Muslims wanting to be able to pray make them radical extremists?

No one has criticized Don Vito Corleone for it, and no one has criticized any of the other posters in this thread who have supported him.

The only people who routinely get called out for being racist are those like you.
