Okay, does anyone know what the slogan "Two heads are better than fourteen" is supposed to refer to or mean? These are BMW billboards all around SoCal, and in particular the 405 Fwy. Seen it all over.

I have been searching via Google and bmwusa.com and can't find anything about it.

Anyone know what the ads are about?!? Thanks!!

Yeah, I kinda thought about the twin turbo thing too, but like you I have no idea how that relates to the "fourteen" part.

haha yea wtf i saw these the other day too while driving along the 405 back from ikea. It confused the hell out of me but I think thats the point, because we remember its a BMW ad. Good marketing scheme I must say.

i'm wondering if it has to do with BMW's 'we're an independent company and good ideas make it into our cars,' and the 'two heads are better than 14' means that things aren't discussed ad nauseum in giant committees.

of course, bmw is the company that gave us the bangle butt. so maybe 14 heads are better.

God I hate those adds. The worst were those stupid VW ads that were all over TV a couple months ago. I think the German companies got the idea that everyone wanted German crap and just didn't know who was making it.

The v-dub thing has made it's way into the local culture around here, that stupid hand symbol is like a freakin gang-sign now.

Oh well, nothing is worse than the sublymonal ones..

I also thought it might have something to do with the new twin turbo, going against the "no replacement for displacement" attitude, but I just can't get the numbers to line up.

Since you don't say that it refers to a specific car, I think what it means is that BMW as a company only has two entities, BMW and Mini. GM, on the other hand, has GMC, Chevy, Saab, Vauxhal, Opel, Holden, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, etc.

From a friend of mine who used to be a higher up at GM, that was a major concern of theirs, as the companies that only had 2 entities (Toyota/Lexus, Acura/Honda) had much lower organizational costs.

Just my take on it.

GM has 8 and so does Ford. Unless you take out the main entitiy; GMC and Ford. Their other brands combine for a total of 14.

But then you'd have to wonder why they left out Chrysler.

I'd lean away from the 2 brands vs. 14 brands angle, because doesn't BMW stress the differentiation between BMW and Mini? So I would be surprised if they mentioned their relationship in an ad.

GM has 8 North American brands, but worldwide, they have 12:

Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Oldsmobile, Saturn, HUMMER, Saab, Holden, Opel, and Vauxhall

EDIT: If you count Isuzu and Suzuki (the GM "network" partners), that's 14.

Well, if it was about brands then I am sure BMW would refer to North American brands. I don't think it is about brands though...just doesnt fit quite right.
