That is an evil review by an evil reviewer. It's been discussed in another thread somewhere..

Agreed.

<--- Too happy the wild won to have ranted about that when posted :)

Multifaceted, yes, I got my ram from MemoryX.

It has the Winbond chips, marked Winbond 311WE W942508BH+5.

what is the difference between XTC256-TM (49$) and plain XTC256 (54$)?

EDIT: I just looked at the pictures... Seems the 256-TM uses Twinmos chips, while 256 uses Winbond ones?
Are they supposed to perform/overclock the same?
I'm interested in getting 2*256, to run with an IGP board, 2*512 would be too expensive for me

Marvie, I ordered my ram on 4/3, and had it shipped overnight. The part# on all the MemoryX p/w is the same as what's on sale in the link. At that time it was $122.

So, it's the same stuff at $32 less.....

So how does this stuff compare to Corsair XMS memory? Also, does this memory come with heat spreaders? I don't see any in the picture.

I wonder whether TwinMOS is a RAM chips brand (like Infineon, Winbond) or RAM modules brand (like Crucial, Corsair).

In many cases it's comparable to the Corsair XMS and in some cases even better. Heatspreaders are mostly cosmetic in function and would not give you any noticable improvement in o/c ability.

I've posted a question on Corsair's HouseOfHelp forums, and some guy linked me to a site that pointed out that the non-LL or non-PT PC3200 Corsair XMS actually uses BH-6 chips, not the better BH-5 chips on these TwinMOS.

So which is better? I'm going to order a pair of 256MB sticks to run in my i875P board (not sure which one yet) with a P4 2.8C or 2.6C.

You could always get 1*512 and then later get another stick. That's what I'm planning on. I picked up a 512 meg stick of the Twinmos from MemoryX a little over a month ago. Now that the price has dropped I'm planning on getting another one. Too many games are wanting more than 512 megs anyway.

CAS is only 2.5, so even taking that into consideration, this is better than Corsair XMS at CAS 2?

It is. Even though these chips are rated at CL2, they could probably run CL2 easy with a lil voltage bump.

Couldnt resist Snagged one for $97 shipped

This should pair up nicely with my 512 corsair xms cas 2 ram, I paid $190 for this stick around 8 months ago.

Next plan is to get a dual channel board

peace

EDIT: never mind, mtec is also a chip brand, so if it is mtec, it's not gonna have winbond chips, which is a shame.

I was wondering the same thing, by maybe the sticks are manufactured at mtec factory or something? it's still twinmos's design, and winbond's chips, just manufactured at an mtec factory? Does anybody know who's mtec and what they do?

If anyone ordered this, please let us know if the chips say Winbond or mtec on them. I have some Kingston ram that sometimes provides a BSOD on my 8rda+ so I'm hoping this can fix the problem.

I ordered this and it looks exactly as pictured on the memoryX web site. I just got it yesterday. I have not installed it yet. Sorry I forgot to mention "Winbond" on the chips.

Thanks daveee12000, I just ordered some after you mentioned it has Winbond chips. Cheapest shipping seems to be UPS ground at only $5.67 for my order while they wanted over $13 for Priority Mail.

Thanks marvie for the great deal! My computer thanks you too. :)

Does anyone know how reliable their PC3700 is? I ordered 2x512MB of Kingston HyperX but it's on backorder.

Bump for a good RAM that I would've bought if I had not blown my $$$ on other goodies.

Yeah, Im just about to order a pair too.
Anybody else have any more input? I'm mainly concerned if its mtec or winbond chips that people are receiving, with winbond being the better?
Thanks
