Tweaking your HP Touchpad

I just worked through this guide over on pre central.net, and I know a lot of you guys are doing the same thing... This made updating, and tweaking a breeze.

http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad/293028-new-touchpad-heres-your-get-started-guide.html

Also if you're looking to over clock, that's even easier... I did it by:
From Preware
1. Downloading/Installing Govnah
2. Downloading/Installing the UberKernel
3. Use Govnah to overclock to 1.5ghz
4. Profit.

Piece of cake...

Thanks to PoofyHairGuy for pointing out that a Touchpad tweaking thread is a good thread to sticky. So I'm nominating this one. Please post up your Touchpad tweaks, hacks, favorite apps, whatever.

If you have criticisms of the device, or reasons why you prefer another tablet over the Touchpad, or you are upset with Onsale/HP/B&N./etc. please post them in other threads. Let's keep this as a tweaking and useful information thread.

when i had mine, I ran it @ 1.7Ghz. Might as well go for 1.7 if you're going for 1.5! Battery life is negligible... that's the best part!

Do I just change the Max Freq to 1.5GHz and leave the governer on "ondemandctl"?

EDIT: Nevermind, I saw the profile called "OnDemandTcl 1512".

i remember when i oc'd mine, did the logging disabling and all that crap, the email still scrolled really choppily... like it was stuttering like crazy still... @ 1.7GHz!!! lol all I did was scrolling through my email!

Did you disable all the logging? And by all, not just the logging you disable in Debug mode -- there is some more logging that is a little more "hidden" and you have to install a couple of Preware apps/patches to completely disable it.

Can someone give me a little more in depth instructions on how to overclock to 1.5? I was looking at it, but I just didn't understand what options to choose/what to pick.

I think OC'ing now is even easier than the precentral guide makes it sound. If you have already installed Preware on the device, just:
1. Launch Preware
2. Search for and install Govnah
3. Search for and install UberKernel
4. Run the Govnah app
5. Once in the Govnah app, you'll see two profiles you can toggle between, the default one (1.2 Ghz) and the 1.5 Ghz one
6. Choose the 1.5 Ghz profile and you're up and running - nothing else you need to do

You have to download the new Kernel, then Govnah, then either create a custom profile or go ahead and select the "On Demand blah blah" one.

Thanks. I wasn't sure what that secondary profile was for. I'll be sure to do that the instant I get home.

Thank you, too! 😀

I'm loving this device. I'm not even sure if I want to put Android on it when they get a good ROM going.

Me either -- it is really a nice device. The only thing I think I really want at this stage is a messenger client (like Pidgin) for it and I think I'll be set.

A handwriting app would be nice too, but not essential for me.

MSN Messenger

I'd dig it if it supported Windows and Facebook chat. Also, I wish there was some way to connect my Android phone to it. It sucks that the only 2 tablets that support sending texts from their devices are the TouchPad (extinct) and the PlayBook (not interested). I just want to be able to use my Xoom with my phone as well. It's not like it's a hard feature to implement nor would it be hard to properly implement it.

no it's consistent... I was expecting iOS smooth scrolling. All I got in return is at best, android smooth. But it's good enough. I looked on youtube, and it's about the same. Still jumpy at times.

The "Increase touch sensitivity and smoothness 10" patch really helps in that regard.

It's not quite iOS scrolling, but it's pretty damn close.

Can someone with Amazon Prime check and verify whether or not Amazon Prime Instant Video works on the Touchpad or not? Amazon uses Flash for their content delivery, so I'm thinking if Hulu works, so will Amazon.

If that's the case, this tablet just got a whole lot more appealing.

I just tried amazon prime instant streaming on my touchpad on hotel WiFi and I was able to get a movie to play. I'll have to investigate further but at first glance it looks like it will work!

Oh fuck yeah... just "bought" a couple of free videos (I don't have prime) on Amazon, they're playing in the web player no problem at all.

EPIC WIN.

Amazon Prime videos work 😀

Great thread, thanks everyone.

Just finished polishing up the tablet I'm giving away to a friend'd daughter, the tweaks have made it a much better device. Sad that WebOS's future is up in the air.
