Tweaking your HP Touchpad

Touchplayer, the one that is with preware, sucks. Won't let me play anything, freezes if it does, horrible framerates if it does as well. Tried both a 720p and 1080p video since most of my stuff is in HD.

Digging around with internalz, I found this the other day (posted it originally at precentral).

Just for fun, you can change the size of your active and nonactive cards:

Use internalz and edit /etc/palm/luna-platform.conf

You'll see the following lines:

ActiveCardWindowRatio=0.55
NonActiveCardWindowRatio=0.50

In the screenshot, I have the activecardwindowratio at 0.75.

There's some other stuff in there to play with as well. Anyone know what EnableSplashBackgrounds does? I set it to true, didn't notice anything different. I figured out what this did, not as exciting as it sounded, just the background image that's behind the icon when you launch an app.

Here's a screenshot with some stacked cards. I also upped the size of the nonactive cards. I think it looks better.

thanks for the tips. Happy with 1.5GHz so far. I'll be trying 1.7 dual at later date. Trying to get used to this compared with Android. Too bad apps are not as plentiful.

How did you change your icons like that?

To change icons, you need to navigate to /usr/palm/applications/... and replace icon.png with whatever custom icon you want. Some applications (like Facebook) )are in /media/cryptofs/apps/...

/etc/palm/launcher3/launcher_icon_layoutsettings.conf

InterRowSpaceInPixels=4
IconHorizontalSpaceAdjustInPixels=15
MaxIconsPerRow=9
RowLeftMarginInPixels=1

You can tweak these a little bit and you may get different results. Since the most icons that I could get to fit was 8, you could probably change the icons per row value to that.

I mean don't get me wrong, it has a killer interface, but the whole fact that it will never see the applications I truly desire... It's just not it for me. Plus, I already have a Honeycomb tablet so this is just sitting here waiting around for something better. 🙁

I'm sorry your friend got his stolen. It's a cool device to have, but I just don't think it's worth it anymore. Damn hype.

Why did you even buy it?

There are people out there still looking for these things that can put it to use.

Dude, sell it while you can. If you wait too long, you're going to be stuck with something useless to you and worthless.

I bought it for the sole purpose of putting Honeycomb/ICS on it. However, that doesn't look like it'll happen till about December, and by then there will be better tablets out there.

I'm going to sell it instead of keep it. I wish HP didn't purchase Palm. They killed a wonderful OS. 🙁

good point but will there be better tablets at the same price point 🙂

and I blame the new idiot ceo.

I give him a year before he is fired.

Has anyone been able to find a video player app that works with .avi and .mkv files (of both SD and HD flavour)?

I haven't found anything better than Kalemsoft (not that I've tried very hard as Kalemsoft works great for me.) I've heard of people that have good luck with streaming over orb but I never even got orb to work very well on Android so I didn't play with it in WebOS. Are you having issues with Kalemsoft? I may be able to help as I had some issues when I first tried it. The weirdest was that it would tell me it couldn't find the server when I was trying to play local media...this went away when I purchased the full version and registered it. Not sure if that's intentional or not...they don't say anything about it anywhere.

Something else that made life much easier when streaming was setting up a VPN on my media server (very easy to do in Win7.) Some of the networks I use won't allow communication on nonstandard ports but they all allow VPN! In general it is a good practice for your own safety to use a VPN on any open network anyway.
