I sure hope Obama vetoes something soon so you guys can regain that feeling of control. In the meantime I'll be researching Pfizer (PFE), the maker of Xanax.

faith based economy. Look, these Republicans are not scientists or economists or doctors so who is to say global cooling or the economy or whatever can't be because of the Republicans taking over right now. I mean 40% believed we found WMDs in Iraq.

Republicans aren't scientists so they can't comment on global warming. It's too complex.

Economics? Sure!

And over 50% of Democrats believe that people in the federal government either assisted in the 9/11 attacks or took no action to stop the attacks because they wanted to United States to go to war in the Middle East. Let's have some fun and extrapolate from there to "substantiate" wild generalizations about Democrats. Your username suits you it seems.

Do you have a source for this? Because it sounds like complete bullshit. Or are you just making up a bullshit statistic to counter a bullshit statistic? I can't tell any more.

He's not talking about the little people, he's talking about people in power, people who actually set policy.

But I'm sure you knew that and your CBD instinctively kicked in.

So the 40% number he cited to substantiate his previous comments were not the little people? The poll reflected Republicans who actually set policy? I call bullshit.

Actually that part was about the little people and it was used to illustrate his point about faith. Did your 50% comment have a similar point? Or were you just pointing out that dems are stupid too (a point no one was arguing about)?

It's apparently worse than he said it was as convenient revisionist history takes hold-

Your number? Utterly insupportable & shameless, following McConnell's lead into fantasy.

I will actually defend doc on this one. His number, while seemingly rediculous in it's claim is based on a 2006 survey.

However the results have to be taken with a grain of salt as the question asked could have been interpreted by the person answering the poll differently than the pollster had intended.

No matter what, it's still besides the point.

The Saudis are responsible for the economic upturn/recovery by driving oil prices through the floor.

Oil was much higher during the 3rd quarter GDP boom than it is now. It may have helped, but the bulk of oil drop has been from the 4th quarter into this quarter.

Republicans like pro basketball coach watching their player taking a shot they didn't want.

No...no...no...good shot!!

Yes. If expectations can influence equity prices they can also affect hiring, capital investment, and other areas that broadly affect our economy.

Oh, so the obama market rally since 2009 (when dems had full control) improved the economy? I thought the the GOP line was that the improving markets since 2009 did not mean an improving economy? Now all of a sudden the market rallies mean an improving economy?

You'll have to ask those who subscribe this particular "GOP line" as I don't have a clue as to exactly what or who you are referring to.

I would say that frightened people don't spend money like confident people do. I would say that Republicans are terrified of Democrats. I would say that Republican control of both houses of congress has made a lot of Republicans less fearful. I would say that can translate into an economic stimulus. Gun sales and ammo sales and survival gear sales , however, may suffer.

I do not, can't bring myself to believe, that McConnell is cynical or devious about what he said. I think he genuinely believes it. I believe that the conservatives are moral people. But they are psychologically shallow and shit in their own nest. They demonize the left and that's an evil thing to do, but they do it in the name of what they think is right. Democrats are always going to lose elections until they figure this out or will have to wait for the pendulum to rebound. People who appeal to the gut over the brain will always win. Everything is motivated by feeling.

So the republican spin to good stock market gains over the past 5 years never crossed your eyes?

Regardless, your rationale must mean that the equity markets were anticipating economic improvement with Obama's election in 2008 and 2012along with the dem gains in those years in congress.

I believe the Republican spin was that the recovery would have been much quicker and more robust had their jobs bills had not been blocked.

Regardless, your rationale must mean that the equity markets were anticipating economic improvement with Obama's election in 2008 and 2012along with the dem gains in those years in congress.
Likely so...equity markets are constantly anticipating the potential repercussions of political developments.

There has to BE an economic recovery before you can take credit for one. A bunch of rich folks sitting around verbally masturbating each other about how the top 5% have recovered does not mean there has been an econmic recovery. In terms of real income, the bottom 95% is worse off now than 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 years ago. That's just a simple fact. So any so called recovery for the top 5% is merely a wealth transfer.

This is incorrect. While real incomes are lower now than they were in the early 2000's for some quintiles, we are most certainly better off than we were 30 and 40 years ago.
