Didn't work for me. The CC CS asked me if I had came in earlier today for the same price match. I said no. She explained to me that someone earlier was trying to do the same thing. But since the card at CompUSA was listed as a 6 channel card, and is "MP3" version, it's not the same as the one they were selling. I didn't feel like arguing over it, so I just returned it.

So this deal is a huge YMMV.

P.S they had the Return to Wolfenstein for $7.99 (even though the sticker said it was $19.99). Got myself a copy.

You wouldn't be from the Burlington, MA area, would you? I just came away from CC with the same knothead response. I wouldn't mind if they had just admitted that they were trying to keep from losing too much money, but the lame excuse I got for them not price matching was just down right stupid. The fat bitch of a CS told me that she could not confirm whether or not the item listed in the CompUSA ad was the same as the one listed in theirs. She noted that the box (not the ad) said the card had digital output, but the CompUSA ad doesn't mention that so it's "possible" that could be a different model. Regardless of the fact that the CC ad didn't mention "digital output" either. At that point I told her that there's only ONE sound card in the entire world called the Santa Cruz and that the company only makes one model with this name. With that, she said that she couldn't confirm it, so she couldn't give me the price match. Now it doesn't take genious to look at these two items to know that they're the same product. What a friggin' moron.

Scan from Circuit City's ad

FYI: After 5 minutes of back and forth, with her denying all logic, I politely said "Forget it. I'll take my business down the road to CompUSA. They're a better store anyway, which doesn't say much."

Tell them that Turtle Beach only makes one sound card, there are no alternatives.

Just did the deal. A big thanks!

I am pretty lucky to have CC, OM, BB, and CompUSA all within 1/4 mile of each other, so doing these PM's is pretty easy.

Walked in and picked up the only TBSC CC had and took it and the CUSA ad to a salesperson and they did the PM. Then the rebate receipt printed and the sales person said "You just pulled a fast one on me. I would not have done this if I knew you were also getting a rebate."

I explained that the rebate was on the CC website and it would not have mattered anyway.

Out I went with my $8 excellent sound card.

Scored at the CC in Tigard, OR. Before they did the deal, they just wanted to confirm that the rebate at CUSA was instant and not mail-in before doing the PM. The CSR was a bit nasty when the CC rebate printed up, but following their own rules is not "pulling a fast one," people.

Is this card comparable to (or better than) a SB Live! 1024 Digital Sound Card?

I have this currently in my Dell and was not sure if the TB Santa Cruz is a better card or not. Appreciate any feedback (provided this is not too far OT for the Hot Deals forum).

Thx.

At potentially $6, excellent value. I bet a $60 audigy is not 10 times better ;) LOL

Yes this is a good card. I tried one out, and noticed it had much richer sound compared to the SB, when playing audio files and CD's. But the DirectSound and EAX sound in games was horrible! Even with EAX turned off, the sound was terrible in games like Diablo 2, Unreal Tourn... Voices sounded muffled and sound effects were not clean sounding. So as much as I didn't want to support Creative anymore, I got a Audigy 2.

But, if you don't play any games, then this is a good deal for this card.

Works fine with BF1942...

I would just hold onto it. I think it's a much better overall sound card than anything in the SBLive series, which was what it was originally designed to compete against. Granted, it does have a weaker reverb engine than any of the Creative offerings, which CAN make some games sound not as good when HW audio is enabled, but it makes up for it in other areas. Especially .mp3 and music playback. It's just a very clean sounding card and the drivers are very mature (not that the SC didn't have it's own problems in the beginning four years ago).

Ok, so if I understand what you're saying, the TBSC is a better card than the SBLive!

Just to clear up - I currently have the SBLive! card in my Dell and was thinking of changing to the TBSC card.

Looks like most folks here think that TBSC is better than the SBLive! card. Right?

Just got one for $5.99. Thanks merlion!

Oh BTW, does this this card sound better than the onboard sound of the EPoX 8RDA+?

Any opinions?

Thanks.

If you're using the analog outputs, I think so anyway. If you went ahead and invested in the digital adapter from Epox, I'd stick with the nForce2. The unfortunately thing about the nForce2 is that the quality of analog output can vary greatly from one motherboard manufacturer to another. On some, it's great, on others, it sux and really gives a false impression of what the nForce2 is capable of. I think the Epox is the middle of the road. There's still that annoying game port, resource problem with the SC and nForce2 boards though. Supposedly, it was fixed with the v4166 betas, but I've seen some sporatic postings that it's resurfaced again with v4193. Not a major issue though as you can still use the on-board one if you really need a game port.

Nice "hot deal". Will try this tonite, pick up flyer at CUSA and head over to CC. They are supposed to PM before MIR, so this should work.
A similar PM worked on a compact flash card that I got BB to PM to CUSA.

In terms of sound quality, stability, and compatability, Heck yeah.

HI All

I went to the Turtle Beach site and theres no mention of this rebate. If Compusa has a rebate on this item and u purchase it at circuit city, how do u expect to get the compusa rebate with a circuit city receipt??

thanks

It is a CC rebate. Buy at CC and get the rebate from CC. You don't have to go to CompUSA at all (you just need their ad; I got that in the Sunday paper)!

If someone is willing to jump on an extra one for me, I'd be happy to pay $25 shipped USPS Priority (minus the UPC bar). PM me if interested. The nearest CC and CompUSA are over 2 hours away from me, and not in the same location for either. :(

Does this do 5.1 audio? I was thinking of an Audigy 2 this Christmas but this sounds like a nice deal since I'm not a big audio person so it won't matter much to me, except that I will need 5.1 sound.
