Tuna solid white albacore. "In vegetable oil". It was a trap.

I always look closely to find the section of the best can tuna (albacore in water). Grabbed 6 cans a week ago. I open a can and don't like the smell. Sure enough, someone else grabbed the oil and left it on the water section. Why oil? Anyone here prefer the oil pack to water? It just seems all wrong.

Water is definitely the way to go. And I only like a few brands, specifically the blue & white BumbleBee solid white albacore packed in water.

Water yes, and always check the actual product (I only check the labels when I'm not finding the product where I expect).

I did that once....I hate when that happens. Water all the way.

And ....tuna is fine. Sure fresh fish of any type is better...but I like dolphin on occasion.

Without turning this into a racist thread, there are certain ethnic groups that prefer oil. Older people too, most grew up with tuna in oil and stayed with it. Younger people it's almost entirely water.

I made that mistake once.
Oil was on sale for like half off, so I bought ~10 cans without noticing they were oil.

I tried to eat it... but it was horrible. I threw them all away.

canned salmon is pretty good too. but you need the skin and bones, and those are harder to find. in water like tuna is the way to go. so what have we learned today?

tuna - water
salmon - water
sardines - oil

I only buy the oil if I am going to add it to a tomato sauce for pasta, otherwise it's water.

Leave it in a strainer for like two hours, should drain most of it out.

After cutting top open with can opener
just squeeze it down to drain the water out - 5 sec
