I know that many of my students don't even realize they will get hit by this until its time to pay. I wish my salary went up by that amount as well....

I'm curious to see what the outlay is for the students here - so I can maybe show this thread to the class some time this fall...

Thanks.

I remember a couple of years ago before I left they had just had a 40% hike in tuition. People were not happy.

Tutition went up every year the maximum amount at my college. The state capped the amount they could raise it for a while, and they increased it right to the cap.

They also snuck in an increase by making us all pay for credit hours over 12 (they used to give you 12-15 for the same price) - this increased tuition by like 15% apparently. The state board of regents called them on it and made them issue refunds to everyone, since you couldn't graduate in eight semesters taking only 12 credit hours.

we see a 13% to 17% hike every Fall. During the 2003-2004 academic year, they tried pulling a tuition hike on us for Spring 2004 (which would be the second tuition hike that year). A bunch of students went and b1tched at the state congress, which strangely worked in our favor.

Bah, Tution went up 60%+ for me the last two years in a row (the first of which I was a on a coop term).
I left paying $700/semester came back to $2500/semester.

This year there was no change.

You must be at GAtech. Yeah, that tuition hike was BS. They hiked up everything coming Fall semester. Every single fee went up at least 5-10%. Good thing I got HOPE and PELL, but then damn PELL just got cut 1/2 for me since I had job during 2004.

The U of Manitoba tuition for Law went up by 100%, from ~4000 to ~8000!

Yikes! Thankfully, I'm not in law :)

Cry me a river. The price of education is high and tuition is subsidize, and take up a trade if you don?t want to pay for the expensive tuition.

During my schooling I experienced 100% tuition hike. It was going to be the full 100%for the first year, but later on it was raised 40% first year, 25% second year, 20 % third year, 15% fourth year to make a total of 100% raised, and I was caught at the second year therefore I paid the extra 85% tuition hike. Last year I was going to go back for my MBA, and the tuition was raised on the same year a whopping 100% at the local school.

Roughly $1700Cdn/semester for me at McGill (~$100/credit hour). This includes all the other BS fees included in the bill though...

There's been a tuition freeze for Quebec students for ages now. Sooner or later, they're going to have to change that and tuition will skyrocket. To give you an idea, international students at McGill pay $6-7k/semester!

Increasing tuition to price out the lower and middle classes. That's one way to get students into the Army recruiting offices.
