TSA body scanners - invasion of privates

That was the only option when I flew Northwest out of Detroit Metro (DTW). They recently got those, maybe a few months prior to my flight this summer. Could have refused and got patted down I imagine, but not worth the trouble. I don't really care.

Meh, I'd just take the pat down. I've gotten patted down before as part of additional screening... it's just your sides and legs basically and I was done in a couple seconds.

well IMO they should install these things at every airport and make it mandatory to walk through one to get on a plane, the fucking things are foolproof, its like in total recall, sweet x-ray awsomeness

Yeah, when my brother and I were leaving LAX, he got selected for additional screening. I had no idea what it meant so I asked him and he told me he's had it before and said they just pat him down. Didn't seem like anything big as they did it right there (no separate room or anything).

and yes, i'd rather be patted down than go through that.

i'm sure strip searching is an option available to the TSA, but certainly not the first if you refuse an invasive body imaging scan.

I set off the alarm at LAX and they just asked if I forgot anything. I didn't take off my belt because they told me I didn't have to at the other airport. I'm a noob to that stuff and the guy mentioned that theirs is most likely more powerful so it picked up my belt where the other one didn't. No harm, took it off, went back through without a hitch. Of course, I apologized to the guy for my noobness 😛. Now I'll just remove it regardless of what someone tells me heh.

Wrong answer. Such a response would only be valid IF the procedures were enacted by private airlines and NOT the government. In that case, passengers could choose not to use particular airlines because there would be other options. It would also give private companies an incentive to change. Refusing to fly doesn't give the government any incentive to change.
