Trying to quit coffee...

I'm trying to quit coffee. I go for a few days, but then I really want one, and I usually cave if I'm under pressure from other things (school, etc.)

My strategy is to have a substitute that I can drink instead. I've tried white milk, but it just doesn't have the same zing. I've also tried hot chocolate without much luck.

When do you usually get it?

If it's a morning thing, try waking up maybe 30 minutes earlier than usual and once you're ready for the day, just sit around and relax or something. I've found that having an extra 30 minutes in my morning gives me a bit more energy than trying to leave right away, when I'm not having coffee.

I read somewhere that eating an apple is six times more effective at waking you up than coffee is. Of course that doesn't help with your cravings though.

Edit: What Doublejr said. Green tea is very healthy for you and might help.

I'm trying to stop drinking it because it wrecks my teeth and I'm going to spend money on whitening.

I think tea has the same effect, but possible not as bad?

Tea isn't so great for your teeth either, but at least it's healthier than coffee.

coffee = caffeine... there's no real substitute except other drinks with caffeine, and if you're just going to chug mountain dew instead of coffee, what's the point of giving it up?

caffeine withdraw sucks the first couple of days, but it gets easier after you get over the hump.

oh since your teeth is a reason, my friend drinks coffee with a straw now haha. i asked him why and he says it helps keep his teeth cleaner.
not sure it works but you could try when you give in to one of your cravings

if you're trying to still get the caffeine fix without the stains use tea

It's not as bad for them

I would say an energy drink, but I can't imagine that tasting (or smelling) as good as coffee in the morning

WTF... worst idea ever. If you want to replace caffeine with an action, EXERCISE before work. At the very least, run for at least 20 minutes. It will energize you in a way caffeine never will.
