AFAIK, all the P5Bs utilize the 1066 chipset strap till 400, & at 401, they switch to the 1600 strap, which is a lot easier on the motherboard.

I don't understand why you are having so many issues, but i too suspect RAM is the culprit.

However, make sure you have bumped up vFSB at least a notch or two (FSB Termination Voltage).
I'd set it to at least 1.3V or 1.4V for now; it can possibly be lowered later

I just helped a good friend of mine OC his P5B-E + E6300, & it was too easy really, so i am a little puzzled by the issues you're having.

I'm hoping that by sticking the memory as you have said 1-2- instead the way I have them(12--), in the same channel, that this should help it out greatly. I've fiddled with every imaginable setting and 370 is all I can do stable. I've tried that 401 setting with different voltages, no help. So once again I hope, that changing the memory around will help.

I'm having even worse OC problems than you, on a nearly identical system (Asus P5B vanilla, E6300, 2x1GB OCZ DDR-II 800 4-4-4-15).

Using the above settings from Icepick, I can only reach FSB 280 Mhz!! 290 Gives me BSOD errors and 300 won't even boot! Memtest86 and pirme95 at stock settings gives no errors. I'm completely stuck.

BTW, for some info on how to place dual channel memory, read this:

Stuck the memory modules in the correct spot and it easily boots up with a 401 FSB. I'll go ahead and let this orthos for awhile and make sure she's stable. Who woulda thunk that those little memory sticks matter where they go.

I am having the same issue-can't set the FSB over 280 or I won't be able to boot up. I followed the instructions to the letter from the earlier posts but can't get anywhere. I have an E6400 with 2 gig of DDR2-667 4-4-4-12 1.9 v ram. I can overclock the RAM fine though, not errors came up on Memtest.

Any ideas?

Yup, finally fixed the problem. I just flashed my P5B to the latest BIOS (0806) and with the exact same settings I'm getting easily 8x333 rock stable, didn't try to push it even higher.

Got some other problem now though: my temps are very high: 65°C idle, 80-82°C under max stress (Intel TAT in WinXP)!! I had to switch my CPU+cooler a few times, is it possible I need to renew the cooling paste?

Advice would be appreciated!

it is possable that the cpu isnt flat, that would cause less conact area with the hsf and would make the cooling a lot worse.
