You're in the wrong. The officer does'nt have to answer "ANY" of your questions! (FACT)
You were speeding.............. PAY THE FINE!

All of you that post about getting a ticket for speeding, whine on this forum on how to fight it! You're all numbnuts! SLOW THE FK DOWN!

DON'T SPEED DUMMY ~!~

I so whole-heartedly disagree with you.
The OP didn't mention his exact circumstances, but when people get speeding tickets it's RARELY about the fine, it's usually about the bogus implications that come along wtih it.
The sad fact is most drivers go over the speed limit at least sometimes, I bet you even have once in your life. The lottery style selection of who gets tickets and who doesnt leads to this attitude. If you got a ticket every time you went 8 over, would you feel you deserved it?

Second, and most importantly, this is usually about the insurance. Insurance uses these tickets to justify rate hikes under the pretense that because you were caught speeding you are a riskier driver to insure. For some people, this can mean a LOT. When I was young I got a speeding ticket similiar to the OP's and it cost me thousands of dollars a year because I was a young driver. In NY a ticket purges off your points record in 18 months, but insurance companies keep it as a determining factor for up to 5 years. 5 years. You could be paying more money for insurance in 5 years because of one ticket.

It's very easy to tell people to just slow down, but honestly, does the system make sense?

I worry not and don't speed, hence no need to buy a radar/laser detector. I'm glad NY has the law in gear to punish you idiots! Hmmmm..... Ticket/Idiot.... That a semi rhyme. Young drivers need to punished the most, as it may keep idiots like you in line.

Where did I mention a radar or laser detector? And where did I say you worried? I said I bet you have went over the speed limit at times in your life.

And why are you calling me an idiot? How did this become personal and vindictive? Your anger at the OP and me is unwarranted. We disagree on a point, but how does that make me an idiot?

I'm not familiar with your posting on here but if this is par for the course you should have been vacationed a long time ago.

ONE MORE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: You speed and get pulled over? PAY the fine! Simple/Easy to Read/Non Intrusive..........It's just hard for speeders to take a ticket without whining.

If you were going with the flow of traffic I'd say fight it, if you know that you were going faster than the the flow of traffic, pay the ticket. Speed limits are in place to give the driver a sugggested rate of speed that is safe in dry conditions. If everyone around you is going faster than that and you mantain the flow of traffic, that is a MUCH safer situation than traveling the speed limit causing a sudden bump in the flow of traffic.

So you never go even 1mph above the limit? I find that hard to believe. You'd better go have your speedometer calibrated......

Is this your argument? YOU GET PULLED OVER FOR SPEEDING, OWN UP AND PAY THE DAMN TICKET!
In a 65mph zone on a highway, I do between that 65 and 70, never any more! I'm 33 and have never been pulled over for anything.

Sigh. I guess some people don't know what double standard means.

So ownt......

OWNT? What are you? 10? Should you even be driving? Double standards apply if I had ever been pulled over. Doing 2.5 mph over 65 on a highway???

Again------- You get pulled over= Pay the F'in ticket! If you want to fight it, take time off of work/hire a lawer........... You lose......... You know why? You were SPEEDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SLOW THE FK DOWN~!~

65 means 65!
If a cop picks out 1 car out of 15 cars doing 75, he's nailed! The posted speed limit is there for a reason pilgrim.
Your excuse would be------ I was just going with the flow of traffic? WHAT? DUH? PAY YOUR TICKET!

Even though you know that you are guilty of speeding, you will still pay the ticket knowing that there's a fair chance you could get out of it scot free? Wow...

I will never get pulled over for speeding, so your question is null and void. If I ever get pulled over for setting my cruise at 2.5mph over 65, then I'll post here and let all of you know.

Again------- IF YOU GET PULLED OVER FOR SPEEDING? PAY THE DAMN TICKET!

Everyone tries to justify something with something. With Speeding tickets, it's worthless.

If you want to take off work to fight a ticket, you'll usually lose more money than the ticket was in the first place. Sometimes it's a wash.

I doubt you would do that. Lots of preaching above. I'd hate for you to ever be pulled over.

The laws are written with safety in mind. They are also written so that the officers don't abuse their power. The officer doing the patrol stop has to also abide by and follow the law. If he performed an improper stop, then the case is thrown out. That's all the others are arguing about. You should ALWAYS contest a ticket.

And come on. You originally posted that you don't speed and then a few post later say that you do.

Speaking of speeding, I have to thank my lucky star I got away with one 2 days ago.
I was in the fast lane doing ~72 on a 55(Limit was 65).
I didn't realized the limit had dropped down to 55 when I notice a state tropper on the laft side.
Well, I zoomed past him and was expecting him to pull out turning on his lights.
So the car right behind me(about 10 car lengths) zoomed past him and he pulled out and pulled that car over.
Damm, I got out of >$200 right there.
There was no reason why he couldn't just pull out and pull me over, I was clearly speeding.
Hey, I thanked my lucky star :)

Actually, the "double standard" in tihs case is you saying it's NEVER ok to speed, quote "No matter what the MPH overage is", then admitting that you do, in fact, speed. Don't get me wrong, I don't think there is anything wrong with doing 70 in a 65, but if YOU say there is then admit to doing it, that, my friend, is a double standard =)

Also, since you have admitted to never have actually gotten a ticket, I think you might change your mind on the matter if, for example, you got pulled over doing 70 in a 65 and your insurance went up 20%, no?

If your record has been clean for at least the past 1-3 years, almost every state/county has a way to keep it off your record, through "driving school," or by paying the (full or reduced) fine and agreeing to some kind of probation, where you don't get another moving violation for the next year or two.

Whatever you do, don't just pay the fine. (Go to the window where everyone else pays the fine, and ask how to keep this ticket off your record. They'll either direct you to a different person who can take care of that, or give you a date to show up at the courtroom.)

Where is the exact quote from CorCentral where he said it's not ok for anybody to speed? All he said is that if you're caught, pay your ticket. Yes, he told to OP to not speed. He meant that he shouldn't speed because he'll get caught. You're taking that quote out of context. He's saying if you're smart and don't get caught, then you can reasonably speed. If you're not smart, don't speed.

In his first post, "DON'T SPEED DUMMY"

His next reply to me, "I'm glad NY has the law in gear to punish you idiots! Hmmmm..... Ticket/Idiot.... That a semi rhyme. Young drivers need to punished the most, as it may keep idiots like you in line."

It's fairly obvious in every post he is condemning speeding, but I agree that his, shall we say, focal point, is that one should simply pay up when caught speeding. Thats the silly part. You can't say don't ever speed, but sometimes I do, and then follow it with saying just pay your ticket if you get caught, not that I ever have been.

How about...
Don't ever steal things, I don't, except small items, you know, when I feel like it. And when I'm caught I just do my jail time, because no one should never steal.

Why can't people either follow their own advice or be human and understand situational problems? It's not always cut and dry, and it's not always as obvious as go the speed limit. I beleive 8 over is not a huge deal, and basically within the margin of control+error combined, so I can sympathise with the OP about the issue, instead of standing on a soap box and ranting about some sort of simple folksy logic about accepting circumstances...

He was not directing his quote of "DON'T SPEED DUMMY" at "everyone", like you said, but rather at the "DUMMY", in this case, the OP.

However, CorCentral did create a double standard through these two quotes:

I worry not and don't speed, hence no need to buy a radar/laser detector.

and

In a 65mph zone on a highway, I do between that 65 and 70, never any more!

Going back to the original quote, "All of you that post about getting a ticket for speeding, whine on this forum on how to fight it! You're all numbnuts! SLOW THE FK DOWN!"

Now, if you're going to debate the semantics of "all of you", or "slow the fk down", have fun. I think it's pretty clear that he has been saying he does not condone speeding the whole time, yet admitted to it, thus a double standard.

just pay the fine, its probably going to be the easiest and cheapest way to do things.

you just gotta remember that today, the motorist is a supremely easy target and theres little you can do about it...... road taxes, parking fines, speeding fines, driving SUV's, congestion charging etc etc. justification for putting a red light camera up here is actually quite shocking IMO...if there are 2 bad crashes in 3 years, they put one up. you could argue that by the laws of probability, two big crashes would happen regardless of idiots purposefully jumping red ligths.

they know for a fact that people just have to drive, there is no other transport options (well no other desirable ones) so they can impose whatever rules they want, within reason, and its not going to stop people doing it because there is no viable alternative (trains here in the UK are usually 1) more expensive for a similar journey and less flexible 2) given the age of the fleet....more polluting per passenger as well. buses are the same... unreliable time wise, and inflexible, they dont go where you want half the time, and of course flying only makes sense for longer distances, not the commute to work on a morning)

i mean im pretty sure half the time, speeding and red light jumping just isnt intentional. like you've approached lights and not been able to stop in time, or you havent noticed the speed limit just crept down from a 40 to a 30 because of a poorly placed sign, etc etc.... innocent mistakes.

all you can do is protect yourself as best you can with radar scanners and jammers (although they are ilegal in the US right?)

thankfully where i live, the police are pretty sweet.... they dont mind if you cruise past them at 85 on the motorway. if you blast past at 100 yeah they'll come for you (and in their volvo t5's they will catch you too) but they also dont make major use of static speed cameras either...prefering to actually have police men/women patrolling on foot and in cars. they do use mobile cams from time to time and the areas they are used in are heavily signposted, but they are truely sensible areas like heavy residential areas and outside schools. not on some quiet A road in the hope of catching you out for the sake of it (ie spots where the camera isnt going to increase safety)

no what sux is when you get pulled for speeding, when you werent, because some one at the police dept didnt calibrate the gun properly or infact didnt use it properly. ive seen a number of tests that can confuse a radar gun into giving a wrong reading. ie shooting at the bonnet, but then moving it down the car...gives the impression the car is actually moving quicker than it is.

or there was the overtake test, where a car overtaking the one your speed gunning gets close enough to that car to muddle the test.

If everyone around you is going faster than that and you mantain the flow of traffic, that is a MUCH safer situation than traveling the speed limit causing a sudden bump in the flow of traffic.

?

65 means 65!
If a cop picks out 1 car out of 15 cars doing 75, he's nailed! The posted speed limit is there for a reason pilgrim.
Your excuse would be------ I was just going with the flow of traffic? WHAT? DUH? PAY YOUR TICKET!

cop shouldnt really do that though.... if the flow of traffic is going fine, he shouldnt single out any one car. for a starting keeping the flow is the safest, so he cant get some one for causing more risk by going faster. if a cop did that, thats jus him making up the numbers in his book, its not fair to pick out one car doing 75 in a 65, when every other car is doing exactly the same.

what he could do though, is pull you up something like following distance...the faster you the bigger the gap needs to be. doing 75 bumper to bumper is dangerous.

CorCentral is a dipsh!t. No you don't just pay the damn fine/ticket, that isn't how the system works. You have the opportunity to fight the ticket for a goddamn reason. This isn't rocket science.

And for the record, Germany which as you all know has relatively no speed limit on many stretches of the autobahn, has ~5 less motor vehicle deaths per 100,000 than the US. Crazy, right?
