In honor of CorCentrals annoying posting style that looks like a bad marketing campaign for a cheesy website, I'll do another 10mph over what I normally do today.

Is it so hard to just adhere to the speed limit? Going over "just 5mph" is hardly going to save you a load of time. There has to be an arbitrary cut off point but it's not like they don't advertise the speed limit.

No, the problem is that you broke the law

To be honest your best defence is to plead guilty, say you didn't realise you were speeding and act repentant.

Read the TICKET DISMISSAL INFORMATION here, then call the court and see how to go about getting yours dismissed.

And for the record, Germany which as you all know has relatively no speed limit on many stretches of the autobahn, has ~5 less motor vehicle deaths per 100,000 than the US. Crazy, right?

They also have traffic cameras all over the place that will ticket you if you are going 5km's an hour over the speed limit, then send the ticket to the owner of the car by mail.

I don't know how it works where you live, but in Massachusetts, if you have a decent driving record and you chose to fight a ticket for 8 mph over the limit, you would have an excellent chance of getting it dropped entirely. No fancy arguments needed, either, just "I really didn't think I was speeding, sir."

There is no discovery in traffic court and the rules of evidence do not apply. The only thing that needs to be determined is the speed of the vehicle and radar evidence is admitted if the cop has been trained on the radar, and the calibration was done with an appropriate test. Ive also read that getting the radar records here are useless as most judges wont allow them.

I dont know what to do at this point. I sent a request for a date change today (trial was scheduled for tuesday). My best hope is that the officer doesnt show up, but if that doesnt happen im probably screwed. Hopefully I can get some kind of good plea deal since its my first offense. Does anybody have any advice for dealing with tickets in this kind of situation?

Does CO offer deferred adjudication? If not, see if you can plead guilty to a non-point violation.

Fighting the ticket to get it off your insurance will be far cheaper than just paying it and taking the insurance hike

Quote from Corcentral

"Young drivers need to punished the most, as it may keep idiots like you in line."

WTFBBQ?!!?

I'm 17. I have had 1 speeding ticket for doing 12 over in a 35 when I didn't notice it had slowed from 45. does that make me a bad driver? I don't speed, I don't do burnouts, I don't do anything like that. I am a very good driver, and it makes me FURIOUS when people discriminate against young drivers so blatanly and ignorantly as you do. Why should young drivers be punished? Most haven't even had the chance to mess up whn they are condemned by the police and people like you as bad drivers. And how would that keep other ppl in line anyway?

LOL @ CorCentral. Thanks to your late-night postwhoring, there were lots of hits to XCopper. Thanks for helping us get out of tickets, you crusty old fart, you.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to burn my tires, speed recklessly, change lanes without signalling, run a red light, and flip off a box of kittens, because that what us Young Whippersnappers do!

what does this have to do with ANYTHING in this thread?

Because there is argument in this thread that younger speeding drivers are a hazzard and should be ticketed for any minor infraction.

So apparently it's ok for CorCentral to go 5mph over but somebody else going 8 mph over has to pay and burn in hell?

**LOL**

All I'm saying is that if you get a ticket for speeding, pay the ticket. Unless an "INSANELY" amount and you think you can get out of it. Other than that, I would'nt waste my time with anything $200. or less because it would cost you the time off work, etc. to bother with it.

To the OP ---- How much is the ticket for? It can't be that much I figure. $50.00?

OH!! I SEE! Another exception to the rules, huh?

First, you say that you don't speed, now this? What a schmuck.

disclaimer: I speed most of the time. I know where the majority of speed traps are and where the cops hide out. Which highway/route I take determines how fast I go. But, I speed most of the time... by quite a bit.

Having said that... to the OP: You got caught. Pay the fine.

It does not matter if you were going 8 miles over the limit or 28 over the limit. All that matter is that you sped, you got caught and you need to pay. Just like it doesnt matter if you get caught stealing a dollar or a hundred dollars ...you steal, you get caught, you gotta pay.

Pay the fine.
