if anyone has done same, and tried using the patch or gum.
I think i need some help doing this, cold turkey, just ain't cuttin it.....i tend to get weak, and sneak one in.
Just curious if the patch works better, or maybe the gum,. With the gum, i figure i could take one when cravings get bad.
These aids are rather expensive, and just wanna make sure beore i buy.
Any ex-smokers out there!!!!!!!!!!!
Help

Thanx,
Richard

I suggest the gum is better. It tastes great, and after chewing it you absolutely don't wanna smoke. My dad gave up smoking chewing gum.

I had to change my habits to avoid being tempted to smoke. That addiction to routine is a b!tch to kick.
I was always tempted to have one in the car, with alcohol, and on breaks at work.
I had to stop going to the bars for about three months.

Your environment and your memory of smoking within it will compell you to light up. Try to acknowledge this and if needs be, change your environment.

For me, cold turkey worked best. I did the Zyban thing, the patch, the gum. None of em worked well, because I did not have the deep seeded desire to kick the habit, I guess.

If you really are serious about quitting, you can do it. It just may take a number of failures before you succeed, but you can do it.

eleutheria, i hear ya. I guess I'll sound like someone with no will power, but what kills me with the cold turkey, is that after 3-4hrs of non smoking, that lack of nicotine, makes my body go like numb. ...thats what makes it hard for me, figured that gum would take the edge off.
djheater....makes good sense to.

For my parents the patch worked pretty well. the gum wasn't any good for them. I'm sure that google and probably google groups has a lot of discussion about this. Good luck. You are making the right decision!! Think of all the money you will save!

My friend quit a while ago. He said it had to be one of the hardest things he's ever done. He's been trying for over the past 2 years that I've known him. It took a combination of the gum and the patch. He tried to explain the addiction to me and this is what I took out of it. The patch helps greatly with the chemical addiction aspect of smoking but the physical addiction is the hard one to break. It's the routine of smoking when you're driving or smoking at a certain time during a day that's really hard to break. He had to find something to do the times that he usually had a cigarette. He ended up just buying normal gum and chewing like crazy with the patch on. He also explained that the biggest part of quiting is really deciding to quite completely... no looking back.

Good luck by the way.

I tried gum and patches.
ZYBAN worked for me.
I quit smoking 3 years ago.
it was easy.
ZYBAN is not really any more expensive than smoking.

I had better luck with the patch and regular chewing gum. Keep yourself busy so that you don't think about it.

My aunt quit about 20 years ago. She had a big jar with some kind of liquid in it. Every time she had a smoke, she put the butt in there. After a while, the smell when she opened the jar was so nauseating she wouldn't want the cigarette anymore. I remember openening the jar and being floored by the smell.

Congratulations on taking the first step, hopefully you'll take the last step someday and be far away from that smelly habit.

I tried the gum before, but i found the mental addiction worse then the physical, so it didn't really help me. You have to want to quit, to quit.
I guess i didnt.

intresting thing about Zyban:

also sold under the wellbutrin brandname for depression

I forget the real name of the drug right now. i believe its buoprion? (something similar to that at least)
