Trump single handedly submitted all the evidence needed. The transcript alone should be revolting and sickening to all to read it. The transcript alone should be case closed in favor of impeaching the President. To any American who feels differently... thou art no kin of mine? I do not know what civil discourse remains, save waiting for the next election. Yet even then I know America permanently suffers a malaise of divided government, with inaction ruling the day no matter who is elected. In a basic sense, no election can have the practical effect of solving our issues. No leader can obtain a unified government. Of helping us move past our irreconcilable differences.
Outting the whistle blower is also disgusting. Especially in lieu of how fast the case has moved, how much evidence of the crime(s) has been brought forth and corroborated by actual witnesses in public testimony. The whistle blower is meaningless at this stage. Yet Republicans insist on smearing and attacking and painting a target on his back. Why is that target not also on my back? Is it not my own patriotic duty to stand for the institutions of America as he did? Is it not my duty to reject our criminal President, as he did?
I feel like a lesser American for not having a role to play, for not doing my duty for our nation. That this man stands in my stead, target on his back. I do not know if he is alone, per say, but given the focus and attention Republicans can spend on him it certainly feels like we have not done our part. That they think the law can begin and end with destroying a single public servant. I feel lesser knowing that they think so little so me as to not paint a target on my back as well. Where is our Spartacus moment in defending this man of honor and commitment to our nation? Where is our public duty?
Emotions feel high, and the want for civil discourse is at its limit. I am sure the "other side" feels similar with regards to where we stand. Their cheering on of criminal action stands testament to the end of our rule of law. For laws only truly exist by their enforcement, and by the civil discourse of voluntary compliance. By holding law breakers to account. Yet today we face the polar opposite of that. The end of our nation, that is the most frightening aspect of where this all leads. And I am afraid that ship has already sailed - just a matter of time now before we notice the missing foundation as water comes rushing in.
Amidst all this clamoring rancor, this partisan bickering... I do wonder now if this is but the calm - and the silence - before the storm?
