Trump sends a legal US resident to an El Salvador prison camp. Claims is was a "mistake" and now refuses to get him back.

From what I've seen right wingers won't even acknowledge it, they're either ignoring and talking about how trump is doing a great job getting rid of gang members, or claiming this guy is an illegal so it's OK.

They are claiming the guy belonged to MS13 because some anonymous informant in 2019 said so. A judge found it to be bullshit and none of that changes the fact they gave no due process AT ALL to this guy. What's to stop them from making the same mistake with anyone?

OH, but they don't care about the due process part. Just that a brown guy was removed.

Cops lying about who is in a gang is one of the older bits in existence and ironic since the cops themselves can often be characterized as one.

They don't care if it is true or not, they just care that they get to use their power.

Do you know how much bad press it takes for them to admit even this?

To me the most incredible part here is they admit what they did was wrong and are then like 'but... fuck it, what can you do?'.

They could of course have him returned and apologize but yeah, that seems unlikely.

Yeah playing smol bean with that tin pot Bukele but swinging dick across the rest of the planet sure is a coincidence.

At the rate things are going forcible regime change in certain Central American countries is going to need to be a core plank of the next D campaign.

Until they are targeted and even with that, won't be enough to stop Trump to exile people.

Just one step before going full Russian

Why don't people understand that due process for immigrants and criminals exists as a firewall to protect due process rights for citizens?

If Immigrants and criminals don't get due process, then there is nothing stopping the government from just accusing someone of being an immigrant or criminal, denying them due process, and then disappearing them to wherever.

Without the due process part, how can someone even prove they're a citizen or innocent of any crimes?

The ability to imprison dissenters is a feature, not a bug.

Conservatives are EXTREMELY HAPPY with Trump's border and deportation policies thus far. It's one of the few reasons they're putting up with all of the other federal nonsense that's going on. Honestly, conservatives would dance in the streets if actual internment camps were set up just for undocumented immigrants. The cruelty is a feature, not a bug.

And if I understand correctly, it's not that the Trump admin can't get the guy back. It's that they DGAF to even try.

The DC court of appeals was right when the judge said that "Nazis got more due process under the AEA" than what Trump and co are illegally doing. They're just shipping people into what is effectively a concentration camp in an unrelated country with no due process whatsoever. It's gross and wholly unamerican.
