Trump sending out text message today @2:18pm whether you want it or not

I just turned on my phone, no alert visible and no confirm button, guess it's not foolproof. I do have notifications turned off as default.

So if you are given a political text message you don't like, its time to remove Trump from office? You must hate NFL kneelers, eh?

Looking at Twitter, listening to the radio, reading the newspaper, watching TV, etc. are voluntary activities. The purpose of this system is for emergency management. If it is employed for political purpose, absolutely whoever uses it should be removed.

I'm sure some people around here have tin foil hats with Cheetos glued to it. Seriously, we already had a thread about this. Why a new one? Trump can't send it out directly. Obama ordered this FEMA alert functionality.

Yippee, I just got mine. I'm ready to file my lawsuit.
Look at who the OP was and your questions are answered.

Where are people getting the idea this will be used for non-emergency purposes? just because it is labeled as a presidential alert, you think it is coming from directly from Trump?

the classiness and maturity of liberals is shining brightly in this thread...

Because Trump has regularly pushed the limits of Presidential power, violated them, or threatened to do so.

And I'm not a liberal.

Oye, this shit was cooked up back in 2012. I can't wait till Trump is gone, but choose your battles folks.

This. Have known about this for a while now. This is not something to bash Trump for. If it is misused and copying and pasted Tweets follow well then...

I have Amber and weather alerts turned off. If I want to know the weather, I'll look out the window.

I have those blocked, too, but got this one today and am thankful I did. If this were a real emergency.....

Did it come through on your phone?

Do you seriously think this system that requires two FEMA employees to approve a message before it gets sent to be used for a non-emergency purpose?

If you can honestly answer Yes, I really don't know what to say....

The comparison was being invited to a political protest / stance you want nothing to do with via an inappropriate venue for it.

My guess is this will simply be a test message, but I like the FUD here that is being spread. Keep up the good work guys. 😀

no, that was your comparison, dingleberry, It wasn't in any way part of the hypothetical.

You invented this interpretation all on your own, just to poop on it, because you are a moldy sock.

Holy crap guys, it was a joke. 😀

FFS.

How do you opt out of this dumb shit? How is this even legal to just spam literally everyone in the country?

It was arranged for in 2012, its a test of a new system that has obvious benefits. We will not have perpetual tests.
Seriously were you that offended getting one message on your phone today? Do you want to opt out of weather alerts too?

While users can choose not to participate in messages of missing children and natural disasters, they are required to receive presidential alerts, which are sent out at the direction of the White House and activated by FEMA.

Rules outlined in a 2006 law states that the White House can issue a presidential alert only if the public were in peril, or during national emergencies. The alert cannot be a personal message on behalf of the president.

The wireless alert system launched in 2012.

A group of New Yorkers is suing to be able to opt out of the alert, claiming it infringes on their First Amendment rights.

I did NOT get an alert. My Samsung allows me to turn off emergency alerts.

You can google it up. I haven;t seen any alerts in like 5 years I think. Samsung devices do it in the text app itself. Androids have it under settings/notifications I think.
