This isn't coming from me. It comes from yesterdays Senate hearing investigating Russian interference in our election and if anyone from the US was involved. Excerpt from Clinton Watts former FBI special agent and expert on Russia

Either trump was colluding with the Russians (definitely a possibility considering Republican presidential candidates were also targets), or trump is the largest useful idiot this country has ever seen.

Neither are a good look for the president of the US.
 
I knew I heard that name Clint Watts before. He co-authored this article on the Russian interference by means of online propaganda which I've linked here before:

The odd thing is that Watts was supposed to be testifying about the online propaganda aspect, which is not the same thing as the Trump collusion issue. It shouldn't implicate Trump. Yet he ends up tying Trump to the propaganda aspect as well. Probably not illegal, but it doesn't reflect well on Trump to say the least.

What they state is that Trump's campaign tactics aligned with Russian efforts to influence our election and similar tactics are often employed in Russian politics.

The examples:
Trump's tweets undermining the legitimacy of things
Internet trolls
Bots which propagate biased or fake news

We know that Trump's personality and Twitter persona persist far beyond any involvement in this campaign.

If there is evidence that Trump or his campaign deployed bots that would be interesting, but right now we simply know they existed.

There are many ways to help/assist. Collusion is just one of them. Go back, listen to the testimony again and you will see the title is appropriate.

There is a considerable difference between collusion and mutual use of events or talking points. As an example in the intelligence community there are things known as "echoes" and we may well have a similar scenario here. A possible scenario follows.

  • Trump makes a claim against his opposition
  • Russia takes this and crafts reports which target Trump's mentality and reinforces his belief
  • Trump uses these false reports to support his allegation
  • Rinse, repeat
Neither party has "colluded" but is just Russian PSYOPS doing it's thing and it's hard to imagine a scenario where Russia would not be trying to manipulate to its own benefit.

The bottom line is that collusion is possible but we lack evidence.

Collusion hasn't been proven yet. That's why investigations are underway.

The really frightening part of this Russian PSYOPS, it was waged on our current POTUS who was either gullible, a willing pawn or just downright stupid to parrot stories most of us sane people knew were outright lies or had no basis in fact. This helped the Russians.

Given your scenario we have a candidate for the 25th amendment.

Looks like abcnews.go.com is legit. There are many other sources to get excerpts of CW's testimony. Check them out

Yeah, I think it was abc.news.co or abcnews.co.com that I am confusing this with.

"go" seems to be the standard mobile tag for websites that has been popping up over recent years. (I don't use my phone for shit that laptops and computers are for, so I'm not terribly familiar with these things. 😀)

I read "helped" to indicate knowing assistance/collusion, but clearly it was intended as alignment in actions which were not necessarily even knowledgeable about each other's efforts much less direct collusion.

My mistake, although I still find the title leading.
 
Of course the title is misleading, but not surprising from the OP. This is what he does. You weren't wrong in how you read it and took the context of what was said.

It's not wrong. He helped them in the sense that he peddled the fake news that they put out. He fed it to his followers, even if unknowingly. That is what is meant by helping them. He made it far easier for them by disseminating their fake stories regularly.

It's not so much intentionally misleading (at least I don't think) as it is that there isn't a great english language word for 'assisted unknowingly'. Duped implies he had a hand in it (which he may/may not have, it wasn't necessary at least), helped implies he assisted intentionally (as does assist). Facilitate might work, but that's a little too .. mechanical.

It would have been more accurate, but wouldn't have the desire outcome. At least be honest about it. Obviously people think it's misleading, as others have posted as much. Others who haven't, probably think the same just don't want to admit it. Far leftist don't like to post negatively about their own.

go.com was disney's web portal. for a while it was espn.go.com or abc.go.com. disney still owns that domain. so, not fake.

Hardly contentious that Trump helped Putin out, and would readily do so again for any enemy of his enemy nevermind his bff. It would entirely accurate to say his sort (ie conservative) don't give a shit selling out US interests for their own, given Putin is now suddenly off-limits to negative commentary from the entire ideology.
