The great thing about Trump’s NABJ interview is that it’s shitting all over Republican’s efforts to define Harris. The opportunity that Republicans have (that’s rapidly evaporating) with Biden dropping out is that Harris is much less known and defined in public perception. They should be dumping a TON of advertising on her right now to cement an unflattering picture of her. All they have is 3 weak bullet points that are mostly bullshit, but painted in the right way MIGHT get some independents, double haters and the not going to vote people to maybe lean to Trump.

I’m not saying that these attacks have any validity. But these are clearly the lines of attack that have the most promise. Anything they say outside of those three lines is a distraction. And Trump’s off talking about whether she’s fucking black while Vance is criticizing her for not having biological children. This is terrible political messaging. And while GOP messaging is always vague and muddled, Harris has the time and space to build up her own positive image with voters. I’m thinking Trump’s political advisors and the rest of the GOP understand most of this (maybe not), but this is what you get when your candidate’s Donald Trump. Instead, they are having weird conversations about whether she can be black AND Indian, a concept that 99% of voters don’t have a problem reconciling.
This election is not going to be won or lost over an argument about whether Kamala Harris is black. The people for whom this is an “issue” are already voting for Trump. The election is going to be won by whomever can get independents, slight leaners, double haters and non-voters to break their way. Republicans have now spent four days completely sidetracked from these issues because of Trump’s mouth.
This NABJ interview was a boon to the Harris campaign. These black journalists most likely already knew exactly what’s going to come out of his mouth. This platform gave Trump his usual opportunity to dodge questions, hurl insults, and spout lies. He’s not going to be cooperative at all and act like a normal person. He’s only going to use it as another opportunity to grab some quick photo ops and headlines to reinforce his love of “the Blacks” with his base. It failed miserably.
