Legal or not, it is the central issue with the myth that is Trump: that he is wealthy, successful, and self-made. He has been at war with dozens of financial publications throughout his life, because he must maintain that his wealth is actually his, and that he isn't a complete failure as businessman, which he factually is.

He was essentially broke before NBC approached him with this idea and script for this thing called "The Apprentice," which wasn't written for him in any way, but the showrunner thought Trump would be a good villain-type to run the show.

NBC saved him, unfortunately for humanity, with an idea that was, of course, never Trump's.

My point is that it isn’t enough to just point fingers at Trump, we’ve got to fix the system that allowed him (and likely many others not named Trump) to get away with it.

Sometimes I feel like the media has become this giant eye of Sauron, perched high on an ivory tower, forever fixing its gaze in the direction of Trump & Co and uncovering their misdeeds, but still missing the bigger picture entirely.

The thing is these weren’t legal actions they took. Many of them were criminal and they got away with it. So in that regard yes it’s right to point fingers at them. They willfully broke the law.

While I engage in Trump-bashing as often as anyone else, this is one of those scenarios when I have to ask, is it just Trump breaking the law here, or is it everyone who stands to inherit hundreds of millions from their parents? Is this one of those white-collar crimes that everyone with the right tax lawyers just gets away with?
I deeply suspect that this is SOP for the wealthy. Trump's fame has merely done him in. One of the sad things is that most of his base won’t understand what a fake Trump is.

So wait...Trump DIDN'T start with just $1 million from dad? It was more like $400+ million??

I'm shocked...SHOCKED that anyone would try to avoid a 55% inheritance tax through schemes like these. IRS didn't even bat an eye.

How do you think rich people stay rich?

At this point, NY state should just put a lien on all of Trump's properties and confiscate them for all the crimes he has committed.

Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have that stupid constitution in the way? We could jail all the people we "know" committed crimes without all that investigation, evidence, and trial crap.

I'm pretty sure by the time all is said and done, we'll have found out that he actually did all those crimes that he's suspected of committing and it'll all play out through the legal system. Keep licking his boots though.

That's my understanding. Wasn't there a case a few years back where the IRS went back to the fifty's and found some poor schmuck committed fraud?
Standard audit period is 3 years. Extended audit period is 6 years when the income was understated by 25 percent of more. Audit period when a return is filed with the intent to commit fraud is unlimited.

I can't find in my post where I said he didn't do it, perhaps you could point that out for me?
On a related topic, I'm one of those stupid people that think even the "bad guys" have rights, and that they get a fair trial before the hanging. That fair trial has to be more than everyone "knowing" he did it.

How constitutional. Let's just skip due process. Guilty now!

From Robert, Trump's brother:
“Our dear father, Fred C. Trump, passed away in June 1999. Our beloved mother, Mary Anne Trump, passed away in August 2000. All appropriate gift and estate tax returns were filed, and the required taxes were paid. Our father’s estate was closed in 2001 by both the Internal Revenue Service and the New York State tax authorities, and our mother’s estate was closed in 2004. Our family has no other comment on these matters that happened some 20 years ago, and would appreciate your respecting the privacy of our deceased parents, may God rest their souls.”

So everyone should drop this nonsense for the sake of the dead - no shame for the wealthy

Wow, then maybe hilary would finally get some jail time lol....

Anywho, Trump's condescendingly haughty attitude won't change even if he's guilty, which has a high probability.

Is this new information? Did someone leak it? How is the Times finding out about this now?

What kind of Americans would put ideology ahead of due process and the covenant of presumed innocent until proven guilty?
Democrats. BUT...when a democrat is accused, they will want the covenant back and scream to the heavens if they are being treated the way they have treated the other side. There is a word for that.

As a native New Yorker, I feel like I've read this article before. It almost feels like common knowledge type stuff.

Not a New Yorker, but have many close acquaintances who are, and they all say it was common knowledge that Trump was a front for the mob.

What a joke all these Hillbillies think that he actually gives a shit about them. He only cares enough about you to know what he can get from you.

We should most certainly not sanction them by government action in any way until proven guilty but we as citizens have no need for a presumption of innocence. We are free to look at the evidence in front of us and holy shit does this look bad.

Looks like a large amount of criminal activity took place here and I hope the IRS and New York State are taking notes as it sounds like Trump likely owes the government a great deal of money.

Did you hear about how Hillary murdered a couple guys named Vince Foster and Seth Rich and how she runs a pedophile ring in the basement of a pizza parlor?

At least the left accuses the right of PLAUSIBLE crimes.
