But public pressure keeps those ideas front and center, and they have to keep talking about him then, and why they either think he's fine or dodge it altogether.
DJT doesn't care about public perception; all they care about is whether they could have pushed MG past the line and this was a clear case of no way.
You know he and his team have no shame, and they're more than happy to take a few hits. Have a sham confirmation like for Brett Kavanaugh if it comes down to it.

I don't think you're necessarily wrong in the general sense (Dems are forced to be "obstructionists" for at least 2 years). But in this specific case, it was traditional GOP Senators that revolted.

I'm not reading the tea leaves, but Hegseth seems like a good test case. Are they going to be stubborn and push him past the line? It's a he said/she said that was never prosecuted. IMO the reporting of the police investigation is very damning but that alone probably doesn't sink him (again, see Kavanaugh).

I know that he and his team have no shame. But it seems like there are still a few senators who would rather just have a less distracting nominee so they can quietly focus on their real agenda of cutting taxes.

Looks like Trump is rounding off the FDA, CDC, and Surgeon General positions with a few more clowns.

Gift NYT Link

President-elect Donald J. Trump announced on Friday that he would nominate Dr. Martin A. Makary, a Johns Hopkins University surgeon with a contrarian streak, to be commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.
...
He also gained attention during the pandemic, weighing in on herd immunity, vaccines and masks in 2021, roiling some doctors who were still contending with packed I.C.U.s and hundreds of deaths a week.
So an FDA head who thought herd immunity isn't such a bad idea....

Mr. Trump announced two other top health picks on Friday evening as well. He chose Dr. Dave Weldon, a physician and former congressman from Florida, to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For years, Dr. Weldon championed the notion that thimerosal, a preservative once used widely in vaccines, caused an explosion of autism cases around the world. In 2007, he backed a bill proposing to take vaccine safety research out of the hands of the C.D.C. Health officials reject the idea that research shows any link between thimerosal and autism.
On a side note, look how they only refute the claim in some passive way, instead of actively writing: "For years, he championed the completely disproven idea...." - Just another way the media gives nuts a pass and helps to spread misinformation.

Mr. Trump also put forward Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, a physician and Fox News contributor, to be surgeon general. She worked caring for patients after Hurricane Katrina, an announcement from Mr. Trump said, and on the front lines of the Covid pandemic in New York City. She also markets vitamin B and vitamin C dietary supplements.
Janette Nesheiwat.... marketing snake oil in the form of dietary supplements. Why are these clowns always hawking dietary supplements?

The guy for Treasury is competent. Irony is he used to work for Soros which apparently was a check in his favor with Trump because he really admires him lol.
i'm curious what the anti-Soros MAGA nuts think about this.

Yeah, I'm sure this will work out just fine. At this point I'm surprised Michael Flynn wasn't picked for something. Between P2025 and the leftovers of Quanon being put into positions we're going to have a government being run by whatever "Conspiracy Dejour" meets their fancy.
Once terrorism is defined as "anyone who doesn't bend the knee", it will make perfect sense.

Oh, hey, on that note, remember when Gorka was the spokesman for a fish oil supplement seller?

Trump's noms are being tempered by the billionaires that's got skin in this game. Anything that affects their bottom lines are going to be shouted out loud and clear in Trump's nicked ear IRT his cabinet picks. Trump's ass is up for sale to the highest bidders worldwide and Putin's grip on Trump's nuts is being kept in everyone's thoughts as they grapple for his favors.

I really do wonder if our intelligence agencies are keeping a close watch on Trump's and Musk's numerous calls to Putin. I hope they are, for the nation's sake.

Hey, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Send in the clowns, I love the clowns.

Charles P Pierce, a columnist for Esquire, wrote: “Out of what seems to be the endless parade of whackadoos, smackbrains, rockheads, fanatics, lunatics, and general shit-for-brains that has been following El Caudillo del Mar-a-Lago [Trump] ever since he rode down the escalator [at Trump Tower in 2015] and sent the American idea of self-government on an express escalator to hell, none have been more ridiculous than ‘Doctor’ Sebastian Gorka.”

Not even going to do the corruption behind a closed door or in a smoke-filled room.

I think we need a separate thread just for DOGE. Pretend president Musk loves coming out with silly things daily.

Yeah, Patel heading the FBI is a terrible joke, but then so are Russian assets for CiC and DNI. Real harm incoming. Pity this country doesn't give a shit.

Kushner is just another unqualified, greedy, hyper religious pardoned crook, and par for the course with repugs, he doesn't speak French. At least he'll be relatively unable to contribute to Trump's inbound dumpster fire.
