Surprised by those figures. Ford scores a lot better than I would have expected (from his historical reputation) and FDR lower.
Wonder if it reflects variations in what is in the database, what were the contexts in which their words were recorded?

well - look at carter; a very smart and very nice person but not the best president. Sometime it is luck sometime it is just how things turn out. I really like carter the person but believe Clinton as slimy as he was was a better president. Having said that Trump was both stupid and an awful president 😉 The one true crisis Trump had to deal with - left on his own he would have injected himself with disinfectant and save our eyes the pain of reading the mumble jumble he constantly sprays upon the public.

Not to defend Trump in any way, but I saw an article somewhere recently that seemed to support my own existing theory that empathy is not necessarily a positive quality. It is often used as a tool by wanna-be despots.

It's a hugely overrated trait in general - it usually only kicks in with regard to people who are similar to oneself, so it's of limited value when it comes to making a better society.
