Ugh… my wife and her mother attended a viewing which was to be followed by a funeral last Thursday. The pastor performing the service gave a small hand-written piece of paper to the partner of the deceased as everybody was filing out of the ceremony.

It said, and I quote “god hates lesbians and you will burn in hell.”

She said it took all of her self-control not to explode right then and there. There's a bunch of drama going on with the Facebook accounts those people now.

Funny thing - just today, I came across a paper called something like "Evangelism News", and the main article in it was a long diatribe about how Christians should vote for Trump (it was full of the usual talking points I associate with right-wing Americans - don't know if it was actually a US publication, but this was here in the UK, a pile of these papers in a London church - one of historical/architectural interest, which is why I was in there).

Have to say it reinforced my (inconstant and waxing-and-waning) dislike of Christians. My distaste for Christianity, and the strength of my atheism has always wobbled and wavered back-and-forth, but things like that really bring out the Dawkins in me. (Ironically, Dawkins himself usually pushes me the other way, making me irritated with the militant kind of atheism).

The bottom line is I just see very little sign that Christianity, or any religion for that matter, makes anyone any nicer or more moral than they would otherwise be.

I dunno, lots of Christians out there saying "but if there's no God then what keeps you from stealing, raping, etc" leads me to think maybe a non-zero amount of them are behaving better than they would be otherwise...
But US Evangelicals and Southern Baptists in particular seem to be particularly shite. I'm not well-versed enough on the 17,000 flavors of Christianity to know which others are specifically bad.

Sure there are mega church folks who twist it into what they believe is written however that’s not what the Bible says. Many instances of the wealthy being wrong or punished. Problem is the book is filled with allegories and dummies simply interpret them wrong.

Yeah. You need to call out people that do that loudly and publicly.
A loud "EXCUSE ME! HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT TO ME! YOU WANT TO EXPLAIN THAT TO EVERYONE RATHER THAT TRYING TO BE A COWARD AND A BULLY ABOUT IT" would work for me.
They just do it because they know people are too polite to pull them up on it.
 
Fair enough. That's just not happening with my wife because she will always comport herself politely in public when her mother is present.

But I would have zero qualms about making them part of the cemetary permanently instead of just loiterers on it.

I think people here are well aware you have mental issues. There is no such thing as a non violent person who has exceptions. As the world is filled with countless numbers of religious bigots and you presumably haven't been caught acting you your purported claim to lack qualms doing one in, I think it likely you are just spouting off as an egotist seeking attention, but your hate speech is in my opinion not just offensive but actually dangerous. There is no way to know who or where your stupid words might have the effect of OKing such thoughts is some other's mind more deranged than your own.

Trump now wants to be able to identify and attack members of the jury that found him guilty. That’s basically it - he feels he has the need to threaten them and make sure that their lives are ruined by unleashing his supporters to send them death threats. Nothing but revenge and retribution.

Last time I saw God give judgement re: Trump, he hit the country with a biblical-style plague while Trump was the President, which doesn’t sound like a vote of confidence by God.
