Hell, I'm still confused how he even got the GOP nomination.

They don't have anyone else to run a personality cult. Rather like Trump's evident views about what the trappings of a rich person look like (e.g. the gold apartment), Trump's personality passes for 'charismatic' amongst GQP supporters.

In a world where common sense, being practical and logical was the norm, there wouldn't be a narcissistic convicted felon, tax cheat, and an adulterating thief who stole top secret gov't documents as the Republican party's chosen candidate for the nation's highest office. Yet there he and his party's members are, acting as if all of his convictions, impeachments, indictments and recorded acts of moral and ethical depravity have no bearing on his qualifications for the office.

The only explanations coming out of that party's apparatus as to how the hell have they decided to send Trump back to the White House are outright lies, shameful denials and self-revealing hoax accusations that come from a realm that is patently fictitious yet behaviorally real in their words and deeds.

The kicker in all of this madness is the fact that despite all of his miserable failings as a human being and a genius "world leading administrator" his polling reads as if he is neck and neck in the running for the presidency. This useful idiot to the nation's plutocrats will of course, demand that this ludicrous world of insanity he and his cultists created for themselves be extended into perpetuity, having already set to rebuke a possible loss in November as they did in 2020.

Sheer madness is what we're dealing with here when it's the worst thing to have to deal with while attempting to keep our nation secure and prosperous for all Americans. Unreal. Unbelievable.

Not saying he isn't serious ... But go head and try dipshit. See how it works out for you. Trump has not been at the top of the news cycle in a while. Just sayin.

Well, if he ends voting the GOP won’t need to worry any more about trying to restrict early voting and mail-in ballots like they are doing now.

Trump has been putting out statements of financial worth that were entirely fictitious to a fraudulent degree, partially to get good deals from financial institutions, partially to boast to places like Forbes about how rich he is. But regardless of the motivation, these are legal financial documents, and lying on them can get you in hot water, in Trump’s case to the tune of some $450 Million in fines.

So he has decided that rather than actually start telling the truth and admit that he isn’t worth nearly as much as he has been claiming he is just going to stop producing any official claims of financial worth and if the banks or insurance companies want to know they can just try to figure it out themselves.

He is cutting costs. I got a junk mailer today from PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP asking for donations with a return envelope that needed a stamp.

the desperation is palpable.

Yep, He confirmed his intention to push the national conversation away from Harris, please his base, and own the libs. But he is taking to a bunch of "Christians". The flavor of Christianity that Trump provides is all they need. By definition Trump can’t do unchristian things to them, so why would they be worried? Besides, Christianity and democracy aren’t really that compatible. Christianity by the book requires kings with the power to wield the power of God.

I fail to see how even his braindead cult could see this as a positive. At absolute best if he wins he's going to be over 80 in 4 years. What exactly happens when he's too old or dies? The thought of Trump living to 95 or something and being president is terrifying. And if he dies we get his VP as president?

This is from his brain so obviously it's not intelligent thinking or something he's thought thru. And I'm still guessing his cult is eating up the idea. And this isn't just talk, if he win he'll try, unsuccessfully. But he would really want this country to have another civil war so he could stay in power.

The fact is there's still a chance he could win here, even if it's small. This doesn't seem like reality to me. This election should be so lopsided I'm laughing at everything he says and does. But until he loses I'm legit frightened of the possibility. Hell, I'm still confused how he even got the GOP nomination.

Trump has taken every conceivable position on every possible issue. He has both affirmed AND disavowed every position he’s ever held. He was simultaneously both deadly serious and totally kidding when he said they won't have to worry about voting in 4 years. The strategy? No matter the outcome, he can point to ‘evidence’ that he called it right from the beginning. A Spineless, soulless, immoral, amoral, incompetent, gutless flip-flopper.

The big difference is that next time the Republicans aren’t going to wait until the last minute to overthrow the government. Project 2025 has provided the outline. If Trump is elected, they will have four years to purge government services and the military of people who aren’t “loyal”. When the Republicans give the word in 2028, the people in uniform will be on Trump’s side. Evil woke deep state socialists stopped him last time. This time these people will be delt with or not in his way. Project 2025 pretty explicitly lays out the strategy.

In Trumps first term, he didn’t have the Project 2025 people standing behind him whispering in his ear every day. The Project 2025 people were no doubt astonished at how much Trump was able to get away with while he openly broke laws. And they said “Wow, imagine somebody breaking laws like that while they actually had a rational plan guiding them.” This why Trump’s second term would be a lot worse than his first term. This time the crime will be organized.

Plus, Trump cannot admit that he has ever failed at anything, or been anything less than perfect. He can’t say “I’ve learned things since my first term”, or “I’ll do better this time”. When asked why he didn’t take care of the things he wanted to during his first term, he has to deflect the question and find someone else to blame. Trump can't realize the depth of any type of problem. He “tried to drain the swamp”, “No one knew health care was so complicated!” These problems were too numerous and powerful. Now, he knows better, and knows who to fire on Day 1.

When Trump tells his followers that they won’t have to vote in 4 years, he’s really saying that in four years he won’t need them to vote for HIM. And when Trump feels he doesn’t need his followers anymore, they had better look out. Because Trump will be seeking payback for the years when he did need them and they rejected him. Trump’s a billionaire’s son who’s been handed everything he's ever wanted all of his life. What does he know about being poor or working class or even middle class? Those are just the people he stiffs because he’s rich and he knows he can get away with it.

Trump hates his followers because he knows he needs these people he sees as serfs to go out and vote for him or to go out and stage a riot for him. He doesn’t like the reality that he, somebody who sees himself as a king, has to ask for favors from people he sees as peasants.

Yup. As much as he pretends to be in charge, he let Moscow Mitch and Heritage Foundation dictate judges. He let Miller dictate immigration policy. He let antivaxxers do a 180 on covid.

His supporters have been more than willing to eat up nonsensical wharbl-garbl for years. It's getting a bit worse as he gets older, but its nothing new.

The second he goes off script, he sounds crazy. Like actual crazy. I just read the transcripts because it's even worse listening to his smug weird voice, but it's bad enough.

I mean seriously, read some transcripts. Like the one in 2015 about "nuclear". The one about being electrocuted by electric boats vs being eaten by sharks was pretty classic Trump. Now his latest thing is Hannibal Lecter for whatever weird reason....he ties it together with bizarre stories about South American insane asylums being empty (obviously they are all being sent here to America), so the working theory by many is that he's tying "asylum" being sought by migrants to "insane asylum" like the one the fictional Lecter is in. (And of course Trump apparently thinks that is a true story, and also now thinks Lecter is dead, which didn't happen in any story).

LOL at the "poor doctor" who is the total creep hitting on Clarice and torturing Lecter with gospel programs. Ah, maybe he identifies a bit....
“Silence of the Lambs. Has anyone ever seen ‘The Silence of the Lambs’?” Trump asked the audience. “The late, great Hannibal Lecter is a wonderful man. He oftentimes would have a friend for dinner. Remember the last scene? ‘Excuse me. I’m about to have a friend for dinner,’ as this poor doctor walked by. ‘I’m about to have a friend for dinner.’ But Hannibal Lecter. Congratulations. The late, great Hannibal Lecter.”

Cryin’ Donald tries to simultaneously endorse both candidates in an Arizona primary so he can claim credit for picking the winner no matter what the outcome which pisses off his supporters.

The Hannibal Lector thing has now become something he can say to own the libs now that people are "outraged".

There are other things he may use it with in his word salads

1. He was most likely originally going for was something along the lines of, “There are people worse than Hannibal Lecter crossing the border,” but he gets distracted, forgets and rambles about how great Hannibal Lecter is, and he never gets to the point, which he just undermined, of actually saying that the people coming in are worse than Hannibal Lecter. He also thinks that other countries have asylums full of real-life Hannibal Lecter's who are being sent to the US where they simply walk across the border unopposed so they can start causing all kinds of chaos . Killing and mutilating people etc.

2. He heard the “had a friend for dinner” part and understood the joke, for maybe the first time in his life. He told it to someone else and they chuckled. He was so proud of his success at being a somewhat humorous normal human that he threw it into a rally speech. When all the Democrats said, WTF?, that cemented its status as something he should continue to do. He also might not know what “the late great” means, and thinks it’s a synonym for “famous” instead of “renowned dead”. That strikes me as plausible, because he seems to have trouble with words that have more than one meaning, and so he possibly doesn’t understand that “late” can mean both “tardy” and “deceased”.

3. Trump has a long history of saying something crazy or outrageous, then when the media reaction is ‘WTF?!?’, instead of backing off, he doubles down, hard. Triples down, even. He even acknowledges that "people are saying" he must be ‘cognitively in trouble’ for saying it. To his supporters, this is trump sticking it to the crazy woke far-left libs, and his MAGAs eat it up with big ol’ serving spoons

4. Lecter is a badass. MAGAs think Trump’ is a badass. That’s as deeply as anyone may need to analyze this.

Is it wrong that I find myself thinking "hmmm, that's actually a pretty smart strategy"?

It the right a few elections ago that the right called the candidate a flip flopper.

But now it is ok?

I can agree people should keep looking at topics as new information comes in and update their position on it

But trump

No

What was his comment the other day. When I became president I never heard of nato then after 2 minutes i did not like it

Really you can have an opinion on nato in 2 minutes

Only reason why trump changes his view on something is to look more favorable to his base. Not because of new information

You're reading too much into my comment. Was only saying that producing a torrent of claims and predictions, covering every possible outcome, such that whatever happens you can point back to one of them and claim to have been proved right, is a strategy that probably can work to one's advantage in many contexts - including in jobs and personal relationships. Not saying it's moral or honest, merely that it can work.

Darren Brown famously employed that trick for a TV show once - ending up with footage that seemed to imply he had psychic powers (predicting a long succession of winners in horse races - editing out all the bets he placed on horses that lost - in reality he'd bet on every horse in every race, losing money but ending up with footage that made him look like he had amazing predictive powers).

[edit] It really depends on having the power to suppress, or persuade people to ignore, your history of contradictory statements and failed predictions.

For Trump? Yes. Rather than be firm and committed on anything he made himself so slippery you can't nail him down to ANYTHING. And when things go one way or another, he claims victory.

It's the consummate bullshitter routine. And it has his following completely and utterly bamboozled.

It works, which says a lot about the modern American public. Those of us who believe in facts and backing up what you say with evidence have a hard time with someone just spitballing out of their ass of course. He's so over the top about it that for a long while I was convinced he was doing some kind of Borat-style long format joke just to see how ridiculous he could be and still be elected. More's the pity it wasn't a joke.

I've always hated the "flip flopper" thing applied to anyone who changes a position. It matters why they changed their opinion. We shouldn't expect politicians to be gods and know everything instantly; they should be learning from their mistakes and improving like we all hopefully do. Trump isn't changing positions based on careful consideration and evidence. He's spewing stream-of-consciousness style and (IMO) he doesn't remember or care to remember what he previously said on a subject. He's about "now" and he's figured out if he blathers about anything that comes to mind right now, "his" people love him for it. You could literally ask him how quantum physics or intricate orbital mechanics work and he'll start saying something about them, because he's the smartest guy ever.

Tacking on, not worth its own thread I don't think...

Apparently Trump has been mispronouncing Harris' first name. I haven't heard it but I read transcripts of Trump rather than listen to him.

I think Harris should reciprocate if true. Any ideas?

There's the Trump original last name, Drumpf or whatever.

"Donnie"..."Don"....maybe say his last name as "Troomp"?

And sure, some will say its wrestling with a pig, and the pig likes getting dirty etc. And she probably wouldn't do it. But I kinda hope she would 🙂

I've heard people misprounce her name as Camela or Camla. It's not the easiest one to get right if you don't make an effort.

But to deliberately mispronounce it as an insult.. that's very Presidential Dumbass Turd of him!

Just trying to other her by making her name sound weird and by extension make her seem less American. It's very much on purpose.

One of the times he told the truth, on display.

Here he is again .... In Missouri he endorsed all three candidates for the same office. It’s a cynical game - whoever wins, he gets to boast about his “perfect record” of endorsing the winner, and then insist that his endorsement is why they won and therefore they owe him unwavering fealty for life.

Or in his cognitive decline he doesn't realize they are running against each other?

Trump will endorse someone as soon as he figures out who the MAGA crowd already want to win. Trump is their leader, he must follow them.

Drop the last "d" as in Donal Logue.
