I thought he would sooner or later put his foot in his mouth and this is proving to be the case.

Would have been nice if he could have snagged the nomination.

It will be interesting to see if he recovers from this. It was a pretty callous and thoughtless thing to say, so there's zero surprise that trumplestiltskin said it.

You have to be pretty bad when Rick Perry is making sense with statements like this:

"Donald Trump should apologize immediately for attacking Senator McCain and all veterans who have protected and served our country," Perry said in a statement. "As a veteran and an American, I respect Sen. McCain because he volunteered to serve his country. I cannot say the same of Mr. Trump. His comments have reached a new low in American politics. His attack on veterans make him unfit to be Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces, and he should immediately withdraw from the race for President."

A little self serving for Perry to say that, no?

Perry has been playing up his status as the only veteran in the 2016 primary field. And really, having served in the military is crucial for a presidential candidate for five VERY important reasons: 1) It gives them perspective as commander-in-chief, 2) It shows they believe in selfless service 3) Uh.... number three.... I can't. The third one, I can't. Sorry. Oops.

I think the point that The Donald is making is that no matter what he says, crazy conservatives will flock to him because he is the mean guy and he will beat up all comers, especially them Messicans. Quite a few conservatives are looking for a bastard to take over the Presidency and fuck up everyone who has pissed them off. The Donald is playing the bastard for them this time.

Conservatives are angry and The Donald is feeding that anger.

yes. but he ain't wrong.

Someone once said they think Trump is a plant to destroy the GOP. I am starting to think that perhaps that may have some truth to it.

I don't understand some of the things he says.

Trump IS the Republican party base.

Someone once said that Trump is the Cliff's Notes version of a Republican.

I couldn't disagree with that statement at all.

#Trump 2016 Baby.

Trump couldn't last a day as a POW, let alone the time McCain was in captivity. And didn't
Trump say a few weeks ago that no one is "bigger" or "better" than him when it comes to the military? What an asshole.

McCain was so preoccupied with not getting shot down on his first mission that he was way off target. He concentrated on the target more during his second mission and got shot down and taken prisoner.

Trumps biggest liability is his thin skin. He would be served better IMO to let negative comments roll off of him. But he is a businessman that has entered the political arena. An arena he understands from the outside, not the inside.

There is some background behind Trump's comments.

McCain is just pissed because his apple cart got turned over. IMO it needed to get turned over. McCain is a squish and it's past time for him to enjoy the rest of his days pursuing interests other that the Senate.

John McCain has not functioned as a Republican for quite some time now. He needs to retire. People like Trump are moving the Republican Party back to the right. I applaud it. It's way past time that voters had actual choices instead of progressive and progressive lite. But if Trump keeps this up, with this type of rhetoric, he will make a mockery of himself and he will have no one to blame but himself.

Whatever.

Hillary Clinton has more in common with GWB than she does with Obama, and you think the choice between her and Jeb is "progressive and progressive lite?" o_O

I am a fiscal conservative and as such I don't consider GWB to be a conservative. That's the basis for my statement.

They're all on the take and are very willing to work together when it lines their own pockets. The job of the POTUS pays $400K a year. Is the power really that enticing? For most of these guys $400K is chump change. They want the job for the perks that you and I will never see or perhaps even imagine.

The nation is moving rapidly in a direction that today we label 'progressive'. Is that happening because there are actual choices when we step into the voting booth? Of course not. Hence, progressive and progressive lite.

Trump is the only candidate we have in the race today that could be labeled as a classic conservative. And if you research his past, affixing that label to him is questionable.

That's not really true, but boomerang's comments are entirely insane & entirely aligned with much of the Repub base.

I remember how the shameless & demented idiots booed McCain during his concession speech, a very sad day for any rational person who thinks of themselves as Republican.

Trump is def their guy, no doubt about it. He epitomizes their irrationality & senseless rage, their refusal to address their own internal cognitive dissonance.

He's a caricature of all they hold dear. How can a man who's been so successful in this country be such a loudmouthed malcontent other than possessing a monstrous ego?

Classic from what era? I can only assume you refer to the gilded age, circa 1890.

Trump has been wildly successful at one thing- enriching himself by projecting this persona, this monstrous ego onto the world. He's fleeced more investors than you'll ever meet in the process. His life & what he believes in epitomize the callous detachment of the financial elite. He's one of the greatest con men living today.

That makes him some sort of serious candidate? Really?

God, I am really starting to love Trumph. He's just refreshingly honest squared. First he goes straight for the throat on the terrible crime against the American people allowing illegal immigration is and then it's on to America's phony war hero worship. The fucking scum that forms the right wing licking of republican war veteran balls and the vicious and malignant destruction of a fellow war hero who is democratic shows these folk for what true swine they are. As Trump said, whether you were or were not captured isn't what makes somebody a war hero. Of one thing we can be sure.....who is a war hero will have nothing to do with the person's party affiliation. Where were all the hero defending republicans when KerryS hero status was under attack.

Loving refreshing honesty. Hero status doesn't mean shit on where you stand on immigration.
